Overview

With the iPhone 3G Dock, you get easy access to a USB port for syncing or charging and an audio line out port for connecting to powered speakers. You can even conduct speakerphone calls with your iPhone 3G in its dock.

Here are some ways you can use the iPhone 3G Dock:

  • Connect the dock to your computer with the USB cable that came with your iPhone 3G, then place your iPhone 3G in the dock to sync and charge the battery. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.
  • Connect the dock to an electrical outlet using an Apple USB Power Adapter (included with your iPhone 3G), then place your iPhone 3G in the dock to charge the battery.
  • Connect the dock to a stereo or speakers using an AV cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPhone 3G.
  • Place your iPhone 3G in the dock and enjoy clear audio during speaker phone calls thanks to special audio porting.

It is exactly what it says it is: a Dock

    Written by PC from Jacksonville

Some people like to gripe too much. The box says it's an iPhone 3G dock. That's what you get. Nothing less, nothing more. It dRead moreoes exactly what it's supposed to do. If you were expecting a cable, an AC adapter, or a Macbook Air to be included with it, it's your own fault for not reading the side of the box. It clearly states that just a dock is included. The cable & AC adapter came with your iPhone. If that's not enough, just buy more cables and adapters. Problem solved. If you don't like that policy, tough, because that's how Apple works.

I will ding Apple 1 star because it is a shame that Apple decided not to include a dock with the 3G, when it was included with the first iPhone. They also continue to supply the 'Dock-specific' USB cable (small connector) with the 3G iPhone rather than the normal 'dockless' cable (with it's larger connector that clips in). It seems that this was intentional to force people to buy a dock.

It is fine, but limited use of cases

    Written by ND from Seattle

I am not at all disappointed by the lack of a cable, unless you ate the one that came with your iphone, you should be fine with itRead more too. Otherwise you just end up with a cable sitting in a drawer.

I guess I might have preferred to have the larger one for an extra 20 bucks, just because my silicon case is not an easy fit onto this one. I have seen that the agent 18 case comes with a universal dock adapter included in the box, and this may be one way to go, but the larger dock seem to work with any case, in any case :)

    Observation, not review

I agree that it is often frustrating to buy something and not have the cable. But in this case, since the cable comes with the phRead moreone, three cheers for Apple for not including superfluous cables. I already have too many cables around my house, and how many of them are headed straight for the landfill. I'm waiting for Apple and every other consumer electronics company to adopt GreenPlug, or something, so we don't need to buy all these ridiculous cables and AC adapters.

    No cable?

    Written by JH from VALRICO

This dock is a great idea and can be very handy for a work situation. It really irks me that I have to go find a connector cable bRead moreecause one is not included in the package. I want to keep the dock ready at work, and keep a dock connector in my laptop bag for syncing and charging on the go. I find it very frustrating to purchase a seperate cable to power it up. Cables aren't that expensive, one should be included for the price of this accessory.

Not as good as the previous model

    Written by RJ from Chicago

I like the way it looks, and how the phone fits into the dock, but I've had a huge problem with touching the phone anywhere on theRead more top half and it becoming dislodged from the dock ever so slightly, disconnecting from the computer, and then reconnecting immediately. Its become a huge hassle especially with the new backing up before sync in iTunes. I'm not thrilled with this dock, compared with the previous version, and I will probably return it.

    Just a dock

    Written by SD from DURHAM

    Pros:

    - The viewing angle of the dock looks pretty natural when used on your desk, but also on the average night stand.

    - EaRead moresy to dock and undock. Fits snugly, but not too tight

    - Small and easy to take to an office

    Cons:

    - No extra cord

    - Don't ask me how, but it's easy to knock over face forward. Wouldn't have been a problem if the "base" area was a little bigger

Overal not a bad solution, but I went with a all silicone cover. No te phone doesn't fit in the dock unless you uncover the bottom part of the skin. This could have been prevented if the connector had variable height options.

Without a cover the phone would scratch so I think I will get rid of the dock and just lay it flat.
