Warning to DP.4.5 users of M-audio Keystation 61es/88es

Written by GB from Los Angeles

I have used Keystation 61es and 88es with Digital Performer 4.5 and higher.
There is a midi glitch that causes repetitive 'note'oRead moren' midi messages if you hold down a key. Additionally , too frequently, 'hanging' midi notes are triggered which neither the 'panic' all note off switch on Keystation, nor the all-notes -off' menu selection in DP4.5 will correct. Note.s will continue to hang.
There is an elaborate 'preferences trashing' sequence that can be done to eliminate this problem..the catch is that you have to do this 'preferences-trashing' sequence on a regular basis.

When I contacted Keystation tech support about this issue, they said that it is frequently and uniquely reported with respect to Digital Performer and use of Keystation.

There is no expected 'fix' of this problem that I am aware of, so if you use DP, I suggest using a different midi controller..unless you happen to enjoy 'extra-work'.

I was VERY leery about getting this keyboard based on all the reviews that said it wasn’t Leopard compatible. I went to the AppleRead more store today and saw for myself that it was. Can’t say enough about it. I just plugged it and it works great with Garage Band. If you are looking for a keyboard for Garage Band, get this one. Great deal.

    Excellent!

Wow, this is the best purchase I made besides my ibook. I used a Yamaha keyboard before, but I was not able to use it with GaragebRead moreand. This keyboard is simply amazing! It does everything I want it to do and more. I recorded two CD's using this keyboard and my ibook.

Simply plug it into the USB port, open Garageband and start playing any instrument that is being available via Garageband. The keys react just like a real instrument, the harder you hit them, the intenser the sound. Love the sensitivy of those keys! Love to play the piano on it. Sounds so impressive, so beautiful!

I use this daily for hours and I've never had any problems with it. Highly recommended to any musician who is look for a keyboard that works with Garageband.

    It is good

I plugged it in. I played lots of instrument sounds. I can change pitch. It has semi-weighted keys and responds like a piano, whicRead moreh makes it better than the 49e. More keys than the 49e is also better because of the range of notes in Garageband instruments such as drums. I can learn piano on it. It makes me happy. I don't have enough time to have a wife and kids and play it. So I just play it and ignore yelling. My playing isn't good, but I ignore that too.
