Shure SE420-K Earphones
not for small ears
Written by RM from Hamilton

I'm sure the sound is great, but if you have small ears these earphones won't stay in your ears. Yes they do have small medium an…Read mored large ear tips to fit into most ear canals. But the body of the earpiece sits upright and the wire is supposed to curl then over the top of your ear and behind. They just don't fit small ears.

Pretty good...

I have had these for about a year now, and they sound great! I love to use them in cars, on airplanes and in other noisy situation…Read mores because they block outside noise very well. Those who say they sound flat or tinny don't have the right size earpiece in. The only con is that sometimes you don't want to completely block outside noise, in which case I use my standard Apple earphones.

Whoa!!
Written by BJ from Skokie

I bought these about a month ago after I lent my E4C's to a friend and she fell in love with them. These earphones are amazing! I'…Read moreve heard the E500's (now SE530 I guess) and they blew my mind at the time. But I really believe these are the better value. The 420 has excellent bass, one thing that was somewhat lacking in my 4's. The low end is boomy but not muddy. The 530 probably had a little tighter bass but not as much boom. Of course the type of music you listen to is going effect your reaction to any of these earphones and I mainly listen to pop, heavy rock and hip-hop. Still, even with Jazz they have a nice warm presense. The high end is also very clear and distinct. Plenty of detail so the low end doesn't hog the show. Can't beat the isolation either or the cool factor. Also very easy to carry along with my new iPhone. A+

Spend the extra $100 on the E-530's if you can
Written by SV from Hamilton

I've been using the E-530's since they came out as an upgrade to the E4-c. The SE420-K's would be on par with the E4-c model. A …Read morebit more bass than those but not as good as the E-530. It's all in the drivers and the E-530's have three. The bass is tighter and punchier and what really makes it worth the extra $100 over the SE420-K is that the impedence of the E-530's lets them get crazy loud with an iPod. The SE420-K's are just quieter with the same source. Not a big deal off a powerful amp but it's a deal breaker with an iPod. At least for me.

The clarity and depth of sound is unprecedented. Needless to say, all of my older models are now on eBay. If you listen to your iPod daily as I do commuting, the Shure E420's are a real no-brainer for audiophiles. Enjoy.
