This feels so solid and it looks awesome next to my iMac. I plugged it in and it showed up on my desktop. I've copied all my photos to this drive (over 100,000) and have been using it every day. It never gets hot, as a matter of fact it barely gets warm. I had older, plastic drives that got sooo hot when I used them, I guess the heat sink on the bottoim of the g drive really makes a difference. I love it!

I use this drive for my Aperture Vault and I take it with me every time I leave the house (I'm sure there is a better backup metho…Read mored but this is my only photo backup right now so it goes in case of fire). After numerous times being powered up and down and transported to and from my truck with subsequent vibration & jostling from driving, I have never had a single issue with this drive.
It is quiet. The reviewer complaining of noise must work in a morgue.
It looks great (the least of my concerns).
I've had two older WD MyBook drives fail so far. No problems with this one. I'll be buying another soon to replace my old Time Machine backups on the failed WD.(5 of 6 people found this review useful)

The drive is very compatible and is already formatted for use with time machine. This drive is perfect from the way it looks to the way it works. Runs very quiet and I have not had problems with the drive mounting even though I am using the Intel Core 2 Duo. Unlike other drives, g-tech is great because they give you all 4 cables instead of just a USB. Runs fast, quiet and smooth. Great product, an excellent buy.

Also VMware Fusion and Parallels work faster on the firewire 800 interfa…Read morece then running it locally. Excellent job G-Tech for a superb product, I have been using other external devices ranging from 12 Mbps to 160 Mbps but never achieving the throughput that your device can deliver. Bad price, good suprise ? Not for me. I sent my latest unit back last week : 2 weeks on… and dead. This is the 3rd time it happens…Read more to me with a G-Tech product. Bad luck, maybe, but I don’t want to know anymore.
