With Western Digital's automatic backup capability your creative masterpieces will be backed up the minute you save them.

- Formatted for Macintosh; set up with HFS+ Journaled formatting for complete Macintosh compatibility. Can easily be reformatted for Windows Vista/XP/2000.

I am very impressed with the Firewire800 speed, and aside from the annoying bright flashing lights and increasingly loud humming/clicking, it worked great. Until yesterday.
My iMac and Powerbook G4 couldn't get the drive to recognize either partition in Finder, yet it appeared in the System Profile and Disk Utility. I verified the disk, said it was ok, and somehow, the storage partition reappeared (this was after about 2 hours of trying various methods of connection, rebooting, etc). I took advantage of the good luck and transferred all my stored files (consisting of the entirety of my college and freelance design projects...) back to my iMac. I do NOT recommend anyone purchase this or similar WD products, as most of the reviews for them have the same issues.(7 of 12 people found this review useful)

I like the look and size of this drive. It's small and compact. I also like the fact that my drives are extremely quiet. I have some other fanless external drives that are much louder.
In terms of performance, it's definitely a fast drive. I have tried the drive on USB, FW400 and FW800. I have not tried it on eSATA yet. I was very pleased with the speed of the 1st Time Machine backup. No problem with video editing either.
I definitely recommend this drive. The 5 year warranty is a very nice bonus.(143 of 174 people found this review useful)
