BE CAREFUL!!!!

This is a good small speaker and it does charge the iphone. BUT (and this is important) Unlike its' predecessors it DOES NOT SYNC…Read moreH your iphone with itunes. They have a place in the back that looks like they were going to put a port that would allow a synch cable to be connected. It is a shame because to synch you have to remove the iphone from the dock and plug it into a separate connection to synch. Poor design.

III"P" makes the BIG difference for IPhone.

Hey thanks for the 2 reviewers on this site who explained that the people who are complaining about the noise and popping sounds i…Read moresn't the fault of the IIIP but of the III. I received the III for Christmas and was disappointed with it but didn't want to say anything about it to my wife. The salesman at the store told her the III would work with my iphone and it did but it made the loudest popping noise that would make you jump out of your chair. After reading the reviews on here I brought the III back and replaced it with the IIIP and now the sound is great and no popping noises like before. Don't bother to remove the rubber plug where the usb connector was on the III its not available on the IIIP. That would be a plus if you could sync with ITunes when docked but I would rather have great sound.

JBL OnStage III Speakers
Performs its function but with a few annoyances
Written by KS from SEATTLE

As far as one-piece portable, iPhone/iPod-compatible speakers go, this unit fits the bill nicely. I use it mostly for spoken word …Read morepodcasts and the sound is loud and clear. It is adequately shielded to prevent that unbearable feedback noise that you hear when you get a cell phone next to speakers. At this point, I think it's the best compact iPhone-shielded speaker system available. The other options are too bulky for my needs.
My biggest complaint is that it doesn't reliably handle the docking event well. When insert my iPhone into the OnStage, I hear a chime indicating a good dock, but when press play on my iPhone screen, the sound comes from the iPhone's speaker, not the On Stage. This is true whether my iPhone is playing music at the time that I dock or if it's not. If I repeat the undock-dock process three or four times, sometimes it begins to play through the On Stage. I've found that the most reliable workaround is to power off the On Stage and power it back on. This gets the sound to come from the On Stage reliably, but it's annoying.
Another gripe is that the remote control inexplicably stops working sometimes, and no matter what distance/angle I take to make the On Stage respond, it will not respond to the remote.
When it's on battery power, it saps battery power quickly. Even if you don't have your iPhone cradled in it, if you walk away and forget to power off the On Stage while it's on battery power, you will likely return the next day to dead batteries.(272 of 318 people found this review useful)

Be careful...

... when buying an Onstage III !
There are two types that are not easy to distinguish : there is the Onstage III that is not comp…Read moreatible with all ipods and iphones, and there is the onstage IIIp (mind the 'p' ;-)) that IS compatible.
The IIIp is the only one (at that time and in my area) that is all black (others are either all white or black with a dark grey grid).
The typical compatibility issue is that you get a weird background noise when plugging on your device.
So, check out which dock you bought and with what device you want to make it work with.
If you choose the right one, the sound is simply amazing... Get one, you won't regret!

iPhone users may want to consider On Stage 200 ID instead
Written by WC from Claymont

I bought this for the iPhone and was a bit disappointed with it's bass. However, I can't complain too much as this unit can work …Read moreoff batteries and is compact.
For me, I didn't see myself ever playing my iPhone on any loudspeaker dock system without an AC outlet. For example if I was on the beach I would never dare trying to play this and get sand into my iPhone. In my opinion for the occasional need to let anyone else listen to a song, or to listen to audio books on an iPhone, the iPhone's internal speakers work well. So the iPhone already gives functional portable speakers. The On Stage IIIP gives you sound that is certainly better than the internal iPhone speakers but, it's bass is less responsive than the standard iPhone earplugs. So the On Stage IIIP for iPhone use is not very impressive but more just functional. The 200 ID is more than just functional it sounds impressive. The 200 ID, unlike the IIIP sounds a bit better than your iPhone earplugs, which is what you want.
So I returned the On Stage IIIP and got the On Stage 200 ID which is similarly compact, but can't run on batteries. The result is very pleasing bass response. You can crank the 200 ID up to a nice room filling volume with very nice sound. And to top things off the 200 ID is $20 less than the IIIP.
So in summary if you're an iPhone user you want to try the 200 ID instead of the IIIP. If you're a regular iPod user there might be a better case for the IIIP, as iPod's have no internal speakers.(116 of 129 people found this review useful)
