Best value for price ratio on any compact speaker Ive heard

Written by OA from Maple Ridge

    19-Feb-2009

I did a listening test with all the speakers available at my local best buy, and found that the JBL beat them all hands down, evenRead more the 400$ Bose speakers and the giant white Apple brand ones. I ordered the speakers very soon after from the Apple store, and they arrived a week ahead of schedule, just in time to show them off at a friend's party. They work perfectly and the remote allows you to search through your entire iPod music library, the volume controls are sensitive but to a comfortable level (volume goes up noticeably but not too high or low with each click). I was surprised at how loud the volume goes, they are almost as loud as my home theatre system and there is no sign of distortion even at the loudest volume setting. As for acoustics they are also excellent, the bass is noticeably better than that of any unit the same size that I've heard before, and the treble is crisp and clear, they sound almost like studio headphones. The speakers will fill a large room with sound and are great for travelling due to their compact size (no batteries though). I am very impressed JBL, if you are looking for a compact speaker system I would definitely recommend this one, once you hear it you'll know what I mean.

I bought this for the kitchen to play podcasts and music and it has far exceeded my expectations. The sounds quality is excellent Read moreand although I was not crazy about the look, it blends in beautifully and nearly disappears on the counter. The remote is easy to use - my seven year old has no problem using it to navigate and play his music. I listened to all the small units in the Apple store the sound on this unit was noticeably richer than the others. It fit our needs perfectly - small size and great sound!

    Excellent Speaker

    Written by YX from TORONTO

    17-Apr-2008

Hi, I just got my JBL 200ID today. The sound is excellent on my itouch. Highly recommended. I am an electrical engineer, so I can Read moreexplain how to choose a speaker from it specs. When you compare speakers you can check four basic specs. The first one is Power, the greater the power the louder your speaker can go, however louder of the sound doesn’t mean it has good quality.
In order to check for the quality of sound you need look out for two things. One is called input impedance for an idea amplifier the input impedance is infinite, but we can’t achieve infinite impedance in our world, so the larger the impedance the better, because it can regenerate a more accurate sound.
Another one to look for is Signal-to noise ratio (SNR): Hence the name signal to noise ratio is the desired signal to the power of the noise. Thus, we want higher the SNR is better. Note the unit of SNR is in dB. dB is a log scale which means if one speaker has SNR is 80dB and another one is 85dB, the difference of the two is 5dB, in linear scale the factor is three. In another word, the signal is three times better.
The last one is Frequency response, for human year the range of sound we can hear is from 20 Hz to 20kHz. Therefore idea speaker will cover the whole range. Of course in reality not every speaker can meet this range but the more closer to this range the speaker is better.
Well, I hope it will help you to choose your idea speaker. Last thing this JBL 200ID is great speaker highly recommended.

    Late but great

Written by MM from LOCUST VALLEY

    12-Apr-2008

The JBL On Stage 200ID, originally due out in February, just made its debut on the Apple Store. I had listened to the Altec LansinRead moreg T612, and was impressed, but it doesn't allow you to simply answer an incoming call – you have to pull the iPhone from its cradle to converse. I ordered mine on April 10 and got it (without paying for expedited shipping) the next day.

The unit is elegant and very light. It comes with a mini remote, an audio cord (for non-docking audio sources), and an assortment of cradle modifiers to accommodate several flavors of iPod and of course, the iPhone. I had my unit up and running within a minute of opening the box, minus the cradle insert, which I only discovered later upon reading the scanty documentation. The minimalist on-board controls consist of I/O, + (louder) and – (you get the idea). A power port and audio in flank the I/O switch, and a minute green LED provides the only feedback. The diminutive, made-to-be-lost remote offers standard nav and control features. (To remove the protective strip over the battery, squeeze the small end clip in towards the center, then pull the battery cradle out.)

To my untutored ears, the sound is great, and I haven't even had the nerve to crank it up all the way. It seems to reproduce frequencies across the board with verve and clarity, and I'm completely satisfied. As for functionality, an incoming call stops the play, the ringtone sounds, the unit becomes a virtual speakerphone (but you're using the iPhone's mike), and when you end the call, play resumes. In short, this unit, some $50 less than the T612, was well worth the wait.

Pros: Great sound, no GSM interference, excellent iPhone compatibility, compact and attractive, charges docked iPhone even when unit is turned off, extremely easy to set up and use.
Cons: Requires AC, no built-in mike for speakerphone, sparse documentation for iPhone users. Apple description indicates a USB connection in rear of unit: I may be blind, but I can't find it.

    Impressive

I'm truly impressed with this dock. It beats the Altec Lansing dock on all accounts - the design is beautiful and doesn't look liRead moreke a cheap SoundDock rip off, the remote control navigates through your whole iPod/iPhone rather than just within a playlist, i've had zero problems using it without having to put it into airplane mode, and the price is $50 cheaper than the competition. Most importantly, however, the dock sounds fantastic - it is frankly surprising that so much sound comes from such a little package. I think it sounds crisper than the other Altec Lansing dock as well. I took a bit of a gamble with this thing because I couldn't find any reviews on it, but I am more than happy with it.
