They are expensive compared to what a 1T Sata drive will cost you, add a docking station or duel enclosure with cooling fan for close to the cost of 1 of these.

I don't use it as a backup device, I use it just as storage device and it works perfect. I Deejay and alot of music I get are MP3'…Read mores so its perfect. I just set up a few folders on it and drag and drop or just save 2 it. I have the firewire version.

I bought this drive 6 months ago. It is big, nice looking, affordable, WD is good company, comes with cables. Still I gave it a lo…Read morew mark because of functionality problems. Since it is large drive I connected it via USB to Airport Extreme so it serves as backup drive for all MACs we have here (5).
Problem is that Leopard MACs will not recognize it as Time Machine drive. Also automatic backups fail many times with Tiger MACs as well. Reason is that drive is not available (!?). Somebody told me on the forum that drive is spooled down and needs to be awaken. I never solved that problem.(16 of 22 people found this review useful)

This is a great drive like the rest of there products. My only problem is the price you can also get the Western Digital Home Edition for around $20 more and it includes 2 firewire ports for plugging multiple drives together, a USB port and an eSATA port aswell... something to consider if you are purchasing multiple drives

To give you an idea here are the instructions. plug power source into t…Read morehe wall, plug power source into the unit, plug usb cable into the unit, plug usb port into mac, follow the onscreen prompt to use time machine to back up files on the My Book. It works seamlessly with time machine. Also if you want to create a specific folder of lets say pictures or music on the My Book then simply open finder and drag the files to the My Book icon. When I first started this product, I thought this is way to easy.... I cant be doing something right. But that was it. Also, I dont know if apple would like to hear it but the guy at the genius bar actually recommended the My Book over the time capsule. Its about 300 bucks cheaper too.
