    Issues with calibration

    Written by LW from Pipersville

When I first got the nike plus it worked great for about 4 months then it just stopped. I called an apple tech rep for help. They were so great and helpful and sent me a new one. However, this one didn't work, it just wouldn't calibrate. I thought I was the problem so I returned it and got a new one. This one will not calibrate, I've tried everything. I'm so frustrated!! When it worked it was great but having gone through 3 I'm done.

    nike sensor set unreliable

My family has purchased 4 sets of these. One has worked for nearly 2 years now. Another worked well for 1 year and died. We have since purchased 2 more sets in an attempt to replace the 1 that died. Right out of the box, neither of those 2 sets worked. No matter what we did, we could not get them to calibrate accurately for distance and speed. So, if you order this product, realize that you are gambling with your money. Right out of the box, it may or may not do what it was designed to do. The quality control seems slipshod for a pair of companies like Apple and Nike. When it works, it is great. When it doesn't work, well, it just does not work. If you get 1 that doesn't seem to work, return it immediately. Instead of doing that, we kept trying to get the 2 defective sets to work thinking it was us. So, we are now the proud owners of 4 sets of this product -- 3 of which don't work.

    Great Product Horrible Battery

    Written by KC from THORNTON

This product is the main reason that I became motivated to go running. I ran my first marathon and am training for my second one. Most of the time I just run aimlessly so I count on the product to help me with how far of a distance that I am trying to train for. For example: I just moved to Paris this week and have no clue when I have hit 3 6 10 miles etc especially when everything is in km over here. So I just run and use the nike + ipod kit. I am also having a serious issue with the battery situation. I have just purchased my third nike + ipod kit in one year. The product is relatively inexpensive $25 so I don't even care about repurchasing it. However, my issue is that I need to recalibrate the stupid thing every time the battery dies. I tried using the old sensor with the new battery and vice versa but it doesn't work that way. Therefore, now I am in Paris and have no idea how long a mile is to attempt to calibrate it. However, once you do calibrate it the product is extremely close to being accurate. I ran a marathon being 26.2 miles and my ipod said 26.5 miles which means it was only about .3 miles off which is pretty good for a device that only cost me about $25. They key is to calibrate it at exactly a one mile distance and to make sure that you are running at the pace you would normally jog at. Anyways I decided to write this review because my sensor just ran out of battery again and I was trying to find out if there was a way to replace the battery like you would in a watch but I guess not. Another thing I realized is that I bought the product for my mom who has the very original nano. Although hers is in really good condition, the device is not compatible with the original model. If you have the original nano, you are going to have to buy one of the newer models. Nike and Apple if you ever read this ad, use those genius people you have creating these products to make something with a replaceable battery option.

    Run out and get one.

I bought my Nike+ set late 2008 and I have been running quite a bit since. It does it's job very well. I have no complaints. What I would like to see is Nike+ that will fit the iphone, so should I be out running I can still take calls that come in, or make them.
there are no limits to what can be achieved with the Nike and Apple partnership I believe.

    Not the Most Accurate

I got it as a way to track my runs, but i found myself calibrating it every week on a track. I also found that when I changed the surface (grass to concrete or vice versa) that I was running on it would jump around drastically. Good inexpensive way to track if you are only running on one type of surface just needs some tweaking

Good for distances, not so much for speed

I use the sensor on my Adidas sneakers and for some reason it only works on my left shoe (but it still works). My first generation iPod Nano picks up the sensor quickly and the halfway mark reminder is great for motivation. I calibrated it while I was on a treadmill and the distance measure is right on, but the speed is completely off. I was running on the treadmill at 6 mph but my nike+ said I was running at 13 mph. Not sure if this is just mine or if they all do that. Even so, I would still recommend this to runners simply because you can customize your goals. You can pick from running a certain distance, time, or even burn a certain amount of calories. Plus the male or female voice customization is a nice touch.

I realized that the sensor stopped working when I ran under high tension power lines... Not a good thing.

You don't need the Nike Shoes

I bought this for my husband last year. He loves it! Has a great time tracking his progress online and challenging others. You DON'T need the nike shoes though... I don't know why it says they are 'required'. At a running store we bought a little pocket that attaches to the shoe laces... it fits the ipod chip perfectly and I think is made for it. So get this product but by the pocket thingie if you don't have the Nike Shoes.
