    Why is this still here?

The camera is great. I bought one in 2005, and I still use it. But Canon has moved on, with the XTi, XS, XSi etc etc.
If you can even find one of these new, it should be about $400.

i work for a stock photography agency and this is what i use most of the time, great inexpensive camera that you can take anywhere with out worrying about damaging your more expensive body. throw a good lens on this camera and you will barely be able to tell the difference compared to more expensive bodies (in normal lighting conditions). bottom line is you get what you pay for, and for this price you get pretty much

I have been using this camera for almost a year now and I have been nothing by pleased by the results. I am looking into getting a higher megapixel camera one of these days, but when I do...you better believe it will be a Canon. lus, I think it was genius that they made it so you could use your lenses from older film SLRs.

Although there are higher quality Canon SLRs, this is an incredible camera for the price. It would make a perfect gift for an amateur/aspiring photographer. To see what this camera can do, search by camera on flickr.com (click on "camera finder" link on bottom right of home page).

Lenses: Definitely invest in a better lens than the kit 18-55. There are different qualities of Canon lenses, so buy the best you can afford; Canon has a great lens page on their site. My pick: go for a standard zoom Image Stabilizing (IS) lens.

Features: The manual is limited, so get a good book to understand how to use the settings/features. If you're not satisfied with your photos, it's probably because you're not harnessing the power of the camera!

Recommended accessories: There are so many after-market products for the Rebel. Once you get the camera, invest in filters, lenses, a bounce flash, tripod, a quality photo printer AND pro paper, and photo books for inspiration!

camera is pin sharp in most conditions. anyone getting questionable results, even with a standard lens, needs to take a night course at thier local community college or camera club.

Many of my photos from this camera are blurry - in the same lighting conditions that my Canon Rebel FILM camera takes great shots. I'm looking for an alternate.

I read many reviews of this camera before I bought it so I was not surprised that it performed very well and is easy to use. In auto mode it'll be fine for most everything the average person would want, but has the flexibility to do many other things. When we bought one for our company we also bought a Tamron 17-200mm lens (equiv to 28-300mm for 35mm SLRs) as there were complaints about the 'stock' lens. Wonder if this may account for the occasional 'not clear' comments? Certainly the XTi at 10MP might be attractive but this 8MP unit works just fine.

I've had this camera about three months now and have yet to find anything even remotely lower than perfect relating to it. It's a great camera for all skill levels and incredibly easy to use no matter what you do with it.

I've had my Rebel XT for a bit over a year now. I've used it extensively. I've updated the firmware on it a couple of times and I am still having issues with the camera giving me a generic "Error 99" message on screen. From what I know it's a read/write error to my CF cards. But the cards work fantastic in other DSLR cameras without fail. It could be dirty pins, but no one seems willing to help.

Great product overall, LOVE Canon quality... but this XT hasn't been my best experience.
