M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 Speaker System
Musician quality system for your tunes.
Written by JV from Salinas

My old speakers did an adequate job, but lacked the range of sound for jazz. With these speakers, what a difference! The sound spectrum opened up for clear crisp highs, realistic mids and undistorted bass. I am now hearing the music that was lost with the old system. Placed four feet apart on my desk, real stereo is coming right out of my iMac, with the correct separation between channels. Credit to M Audio for a wonderful sound system for a reasonable price. These will not be returned!

Musical and satisfying

These speakers are for those wanting to hear their music collection without artificial highs and lows. Gamers and explosion freaks should look elsewhere, but music lovers need look no further.

Great Speakers
Written by WE from Rockport

Just got these M-Audio AV 40 Speakers and am very pleased with the overall sound and quality of the pair. Found the bass a little heavy - easy to correct in I-Tunes EQ. Tried both KRK Rokit 5's and Bose Companion II's ( more $, and less $, respectively) and the M- Audio's blow both away, they hit the sweet spot. I use the speakers with a M-Audio Axiom keyboard for music composition, and also to listen to rock on I-Tunes. These speakers produce great depth, richness and volume at a realistic price. The highs are clear while the mid range needs a little boost (EQ again). (Do not forget to install the rubber acoustic bottom pads.) Try these you will be sooo happy.

Good sound, Bass Switch, easy to handle. Professional straight sound even for little premastering and recording studio.

Big Sound!
Written by JE from Montclair

I bought these speakers based on the reviews and how Apple has a special return policy for speakers. This way I could test them out and see if they live up to the reviews. The truth is THEY DO! I do amateur music production. I personally think these speakers get really close to audiophile quality for a great price. The sound is simply clean and big. They get loud without distortion. Of course these are monitor speakers and you wouldn't use it for a concert or club. A small house "gathering" might do well with these. Music and movies sound clear and warm, not overly digitized/tinny as most speakers in this range do. If you like your bass really rumbly and boomy, these are not for you. If you like clean balanced sound from all ranges, I really suggest these speakers. I just love the simple pro studio look of them too!

don't last
Written by EC from plainview

Bought these speakers twice and not waiting around to buy again. First set lasted less than 1 month, and had to be returned, and second set just over a year. What good is sound quality if the speakers don't last.

I AM A PRODUCER OF MANY STYLES OF MUSIC AND HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT A INTERFACCE PACKAGE WHICH LUCKILY INCLUDED THESE SPEAKERS AND I AM BLOWN AWAY WITH SOUND QUALITY. I BOUGHT THE PACKAGE TODAY AND HAVE NEVER HEARD MUSIC MORE CLEARLY AND WITH SUCH VALUE. I RECENTLY WAS USING BOSE COMPANION 2 AND THERE IS NO COMPARISON. I HAVE NEVER WROTE A REVIEW FOR ANYTHING ON THE NET. IF YOU ENJOY SOUND QUALITY AND WANT TO SPEND AROUND $200 THEY ARE THE BEST!

Good basic speaker, not audiophile grade
Written by JF from Sonora

Clean appearance, simple hook-up for those of you using Airport Express. I have four pairs, in various parts of the house, all running off AE. The sound in the mid-range is good, but the highs ( Opera, the soprano parts) tend to crackle a little. I haven't tried improving my cables as one buyer suggested, nor do I know how much Airport Exp might contribute to any degradation. For simple installation, moderate sound levels & basic use I highly recommend these. Just don't expect that you're getting big $$ stereo system sound. Don't make them something that they're not. My comments notwithstanding, buy them, try them, and likely you'll keep them and order additional pairs, like I did. I expect to buy a 5th pair this summer for the garage. They work very nicely with those Bose FS-1 stands available at Amazon.

awesome...

i personally checked out (listened to) at least 8 other desktop speaker systems (2 & 3 component systems) for between $100 & $200. the M-Audio AV40s are just in a league of their own. they're a little big (i have a huge desk, though)...and not available "everywhere (i found mine at a pro music store) but i could not be more pleased. find a pair & listen...AFTER you've auditioned all the rest...INCREDIBLE!!
