    Not fully 3G compatible

    Concept: A++
    Use for iPhone 3G: C-

    This would be the perfect solution for me, but it didn't work well in my 2000 VW Jetta. It did charge the iPhone and I was able to play music from the line out -- but the music was accompanied by a persistent whine that I just couldn't tolerate. Yes, it went away when you put the iPhone in Airplane mode, but I don't want to shut out incoming calls when I'm playing music.

    The build quality is so-so (it took some doing to make the arms open properly to position the iPhone) and it can be tricky to place with the short arm leading from the power outlet.

    It seems that maybe it works better with the iPhone 3G in some cars than in others, but it wasn't right for me. If Kengington ever makes a truly 3G-compatible version of this product, I'm all over it. But to call its current incarnation 3G-compatible is a stretch.

    Mixed impression

    I have a love/hate relationship with this product. The aux-out (with a coupler to tape deck) is atrocious. The audio is severely distorted and I have had no luck thus far with support trying to resolve the issue. My main reason for buying this product was to simply drop the item in the dock and use it as needed. I cannot do that as the only clear audio I get is from the headphone jack.

    Now, the quality of the cradle isn't fantastic but the device just works. I love the remote and other than the issue of the device occasionally not recognizing my 3G and wanting it to run in Airplane Mode, I am satisfied

    Great Idea, Poorly Executed

    I've been looking and waiting for a full aux-port cradle solution for years, and I couldn't wait to purchase this. Unfortunately, my overall impression is "meh."

    The system works as advertised. That said, the build quality is flimsy at best -- the remote literally fell apart (into pieces that shouldn't have come off) while I removed the battery cover to install the battery, only one of the extending arms actually extends properly (the other hangs and has to be yanked out), and the flexible post is too short for its stiffness, so bending it to a usable angle causes it to flex the base so hard that I worry about it snapping. Also, forget using this in a recessed power jack; it needs one fairly flush (and unobstructed) with the dash because of the too-short flex-arm. I really wanted to like this, and it's just been a big disappointment in quality for $100.00.

    engine noise

    I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado truck and the engine noise while using the AUX port was sometimes louder than the music. The design of this product is great, the AUX cable was the perfect length from the base to the input port and the holder held my IPod securely making it easy to reach and switch songs etc. Engine noise during exceleration and deceleration was terrible and there was an annoying hum all of the time. I originally bought the Kensington LiquidAUX and had the same problem and then tried the Delux model --- No more Kensingtons for me.
