I have had more 'wow' moments from people looking at the rich colours and precise detail than I ever got from my epson r2400 (which I traded-in as the ink usage was so extreme). So I have no hesitation recommending this superb printer.(24 of 27 people found this review useful)

Great prints, if you use the right paper

To get the advertised results you must use HPs Advanced Photo Papers, or equivalents from the likes of Ilford, Kodax etc. Ilford Matte and Semi Gloss worked well for me.
If you use HPs Premium Plus Photo paper, which are designed for dye based inks, you will be upset at the output. Images print flat, with no gloss sheen or lustre and you are left wondering what the **** to do, especially if you compare the output with the same photo printed on an HP dye based printer e.g. HPC7280!
HP uses its Vivera brand for both Dye and Pigment based inks. Its Premium Plus Photo paper specifically claims to be Vivera compatible, I believe this claim is causing a misunderstanding amongst photographers who wish to print their own photos.
HP could make this easier to understand if they were to explain this clearly in the literature.
Happy printing!

It uses ink on self-tests regularly, and a full set of cartridges costs about £150 (but they run out seperately). Great for photos, not for other software

This would have been five stars except for the lack of support from other apps than Photoshop and its own print software (which handles most bitmap formats). Printing from Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat works but is not handled at all well; the colours vary wildly and type edges show heavy jagged lines. When asked about this, HP support replied saying the only 3rd party app it supports printing from PS.(34 of 37 people found this review useful)
