HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One WiFi Printer
A great little printer once the wireless issues are sorted
Written by PS from Lichfield

I bought this at the same time as my new imac as I wanted to be able to save space by having the printer somewhere different to th…Read moree computer itself. It also made life much easier to print from the various computers I use for home and work use.
I opted for this one as I wasn't too bothered about the photo quality (although this is good on this model) and simply needed a reliable machine to copy, scan and print. The initial set up was straightforward and I could not understand what a lot of the fuss was about with the wireless setup - I had a desktop and a laptop setup in around 15 mins with no issues. The printer worked fine at first, but then I switched it off and could not get it to print again when switched back on.
This problem became very frustrating as printing a simple document became a major hassle as each time I turned the printer back on I had to realign the wireless settings - not what I had been looking for. Eventually I wiped the software and started from scratch, including realigning the print cartridges - since then it has worked fine 0 first time every time and I am very happy with the product.
The print quality is very good, colour is sharp with decent contrasts and the black print is very crisp. I use the printer mainly for black text based documents for work and found that the default settings can drink ink quite quickly, although after a little fiddling with the settings I print most documents on the 'fast draft' option and this works perfectly for letters and things. I simply up the setting if I am printing documents with graphics and tables.
Overall, after the initial hiccoughs, I am very pleased with this product, but there clearly is some issue with the reliability of the wireless drivers and novices may struggle to troubleshoot if there are problems. Was this useful?

Hp C4580 Good Quality but annoying to use
Written by TB from London

I was purchasing my Apple MacBook Pro from the online apple store, when i saw the £60 rebate offer. I could have gone for the free…Read more one but i decided to spend just over £20 and go for a wireless one. I know from other reviews that people complain about the printer going offline, something i have not come across, but think about it, unless you live in a house were someone is prepared to go to the printer and pick up your prints for you, you will have to be next to the printer to pick up the prints, but i hate having to spend time finding the cable and plugging it in so wireless is the best thing. The printer it self was reasonably simple to set up not quite as simple as ABC and instilation software took atleast 30 mins to set up.... but it was easy to connect to our WLAN. the software does come with advantages though it allows you to scan wirelessly which most people as i have read complain they cant do but if you install the software that came with the disc it seems to be fine. Memory card pickup; the printer like many others has a multi card reader built in, which allows you to print from direct into the printer. You can after about 10 mins of waiting use it as a wireless memory card reader, it just automatically shares it self on the LAN that it is connected to. So i decided to print direct from it, i would say it took atleast 7 mins to print, painstakilngly slow for just a 10x15 paper. i then tried from my mac and it took less than 1 min..... The quality (i was using the free photo paper that came with it) was superb. Howevwe the actual qauilty of build of the printer is pretty shabby, none of the plastic is flush with itself its plasticy and feels like a flat pack printer. But I suppose for £80 its not all that bad. Summary:
Print quality: 8.9
Scan Use: 6.5
Wireless Ability: 7.0
Ease Of Use: 6.0
Build Quality: 4.0

Brilliant product, great value and easy to install

Bought this printer today, I'd been looking for ages for a decent wireless printer that wasn't too big or too pricey. Walked into…Read more the Apple Store on Regent Street and was confronted with this beauty, nice size, nice price, and looked like it would do the job nicely. AND - it's got a scanner, copier, card reader as well, all for sub £90. Setup was really really easy - I set up 2 laptops in about 15 mins, and it prints great.
I'm sure HP will get me on the price of replacement inks, but hey you can't have everything!! I can't believe I'm banging on about a printer on a Sunday night. I really should get out more, but thought I'd share this with you. Well impressed.(147 of 155 people found this review useful)

Wireless setup is a nightmare
Written by AM from LONDON

Printer itself is good & easy setup via usb. However trying to use it wirelessly is a different story. Checking forums for help an…Read mored this is a common problem with this printer. I am not sure why apple sell this as all documentation is xp centric!!
If you want a wireless printer that is easy to set up I would probably advise against this.(55 of 71 people found this review useful)
