Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
Not impressed but then used correct buds and was amazed!
Written by ND from Liverpool

I got these headphone the other day after a bit of research after getting them home i plugged them in and played a track and was d…Read moreevastated with he sound quality, just no bass at all just lots of top end.
But after seeing some instruction about how to fit the buds correctly into the ear cannel i managed to do this (felt a little odd) but the sound out of them was unreal! Just amazing! Im still deciding on which Flange or Foam Bud works best for me (and for bass) but which ever bud i use they sound amazing. Would recommend these headphones 100%. Just make sure you use the correct buds and have them right into your ear canal (dose feel odd at 1st but you get used to it and then you don't notice them!)
The microphone on them is crystal clear, the skip and pause button work great and they are very light.
So all in all make sure you use the correct buds and have them pushed right into the ear and you will be amazed!(10 of 10 people found this review useful)

Woefully Poor Sound -- Fitting is Intrusive, Uncomfortable & Unhygienic
Written by MK from London

Do not buy these awful, god forsaken headphones. I am a musician who normally listens to music in a raw or lossless format, rangin…Read moreg from AC/DC to Susumu Yokota, on a pair of Grado SR80s. At home I have an Onkyo CR series and a Cambridge Audio Azur series system. The Grados are big and the apple headphones fall out of my ears that come with the iPhone.
To sum what is below:
1. the sound is just as poor as the Apple supplied headphones.
2. the fitting is uncomfortable, intrusive and unhygienic
3. the controller section feels cheap and is very sensitive to double click speeds
4. Exorbitantly expensive, do not buy them.
I was impressed by the packaging, but as soon as I held the headphones I started to worry. The controller and mic section feels very cheap (the apple supplied iphone phones feel better). And the controller does not work as it should. One click for pause and two for next track. Problem is is that it is very sensitive to the speed you double click and you end up pausing when you want to skip a track.
Aside from that, they sound no different to the headphones supplied with the iPhone 3G. I tried different combinations of the supplied buds and tried inserting the buds different to no avail. I could not get a decent sound from them. No bass, nothing remarkable at all (no lush highs, plunging mids, commanding bass), just plain poor.
The coffin sealer for me is the fact that, to me, it just feels plain weird to have so much of the world cut off from me when I put them on. It does not feel good to have these things completely plugging your ears up. Furthermore, any cord movement (which is all the time when you are walking) causes a nasty sound to be heard in the ear bud.
Hygiene-wise, as they are in your ear, when you take them out there was earwax on them. I clean my ears but these little things are magnets for the wax you can't get to with just plain ear buds.
Finally, I simply cannot believe that Etymotic want nearly 100 pounds for these things. I really would not pay 10 pounds. It beggers belief, I feel like a fool for buying them and I will return them as soon as I finish writing this warning to others. Etymotic need to think long and hard about why bother having a business at all.(24 of 45 people found this review useful)

Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
Good product, still the same design fault.
Written by NB from Brentwood

I pre-ordered my hf2's from Etymotic when they were first announced. I was very happy when they arrived quickly and they gave a di…Read morescount for pre-ordering (although I still paid more than they are offered for sale here once shipping and tac was included).
I used them a couple of times a week for 3 months and the sound quality was excellent, somewhere between the ER6i's and the ER4p's which I had already own. They did get a bit painful on the ears after approximately 6 to 8 hours of use which I never had previously with Etymotic products.
The button functions in exactly the same way as the standard iPhone headset, but is much larger and less attractive, and the button does feel really rather cheap.
The problem occurred when I was delayed at an airport a few weeks back. All of a sudden the left channel died and, low and behold, when I wiggles the cable neck near the headphone jack the sound faded in and out. I am yet to meet an Etymotic owner who has not had the same problem of weak soldering at the headphone jack, so accept that you will have to send these items back to the US for repair (with £8 worth of insured shipping and hassle of being without them) when you buy them.(113 of 136 people found this review useful)

Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
First no, then YES!

I used the basic iPhone headset, then bought these. First use was a dissappointment, weak sound and allmost no bass. I tried the e…Read morearplug pieces and they were a little better, but not suitable.
Then I just tried the silicone earpieces again and I was surprised that they have to be really deep in your ear to work! Now when I've learned how to position them correctly (which is easy when you get the feel for it), they work just great! Bass and the overall sound quality is from another world.(67 of 69 people found this review useful)

Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
Quality product
Written by GR

I bought my pair of hf2s after seeing a review in the Mail on Sunday a month or so ago, and they are possibly the best £100 I have…Read more spent. I am very surprised to see a negative review on here, and cannot understand how anyone could have any qualms with this product. The clarity when listening to music or taking calls is far better than any product I have ever used, and being a regular commuter for 20 odd years now, trust me I have tried many earphones!
Etymotic has obviously taken great care in the placing of the microphone; it picks up everything that comes out of your mouth (not ideal when speaking to the wife!)! Likewise however, no matter where I am, I can hear everything that the person on the other end of the line is saying to me.
The music listening experience that the hf2s offer is incredible too, I cannot hear anything else whilst the buds are inserted and the quality of sound leads me to believe I am in a studio! I highly recommend this product and so do the press according to the reviews I have seen!
