- (1) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access; fees may apply. Some ISPs are not currently compatible with Time Capsule.
- (2) Time Capsule is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g. Performance is based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes Time Capsule-based network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.

Time Capsule

For those of us who have gone through the pains of router issues the Time capsule is for you. First, it works everytime. The Tim…Read moree Capsule found my laptop and desktop easily and started quickly started backing everything up. I live in a three story townhouse with the office on the third floor and the cable comes in the basement - despite this I have had no speed or connection issues. Second, if you do have an issue there is no more calling your internet provider, computer or router manufacturer all telling you it is someone else's problem. If you have a problem you call Apple, and as we all know their customer service alone makes owning a Apple worth it. Lastly, I put an uninterupted power supply (UPS)on my cable to help regulate power fluctuations. The 30 minute backup plus the power regulation prevents it from getting dropped or spiked with is not good for any electrical equipment. I believe this has greatly improved my internet connectivity while simutanously protecting the Time Capsule. In short, the Time Capsule is a must have!

Yes ... it is slow. People are continuously writing about the speed of this product. Ask yourself this, what WIRELESS network st…Read moreorage is known for speed? --What the people are failing to mention is that it is a reliable, easy to setup BACKUP product that will save you if that hard drive crashes. When setting up, make sure that you do your initial backup with a CAT5 cable attached to your computer/router. Doing the backup over wireless for the first time will send you into a very long process. After the initial backup though, you have a consistently running backup that is very painless on a wireless setup. When the day comes that your hard drive crashes, you will be thanking Mr. Jobs for his great product!

Time Capsule, not quite up to Apple standard.

For the most part time capsule is easy to use and setup. Airport utility is simple and quick to use. Now for the the disappointing…Read more aspect. The speed and strength of signal is not quite as good as other wireless N routers. The base station also gets really hot. Make sure you keep it in a well ventilated area. There is also a glitch with Time Machine. The first time Time Machine backed up my hard drive it worked perfectly. Since then though, randomly, but frequently, when it starts an hourly back it will freeze my Mac Book. Which is the one of the main things I wanted to avoid when switching to MAC a couple of years ago. Lastly, the wifi tends to drop at random times requiring a reboot (not the pushing of the reset button on the back, but actually unplugging the station) of the router.

I have a full five bars all the time, and no drops from the network. The automatic backing up of both my laptop and my son's desktop (using Time Machine) is wonderful. In addition, I have moved a substantial audio library off of my laptop and onto Time Capsule, freeing up a big chunk of my laptop's hard drive. This device is exactly what I needed.
