The sound quality is very good and rivals my Bose Portable Sound Dock. The battery life is more than expected.....3 AAA rechargeable batteries last me the entire work week and the speaker is on 6-7 hours a day, 5 days a week. If you buy this speaker you will not be disappointed!

When it arrived I plugged it in to my iPod Nano 4G and was astounded by the clarity of the sound! You can imagine the music being played live it's that good.
Don't be dissuaded by the short battery life listed in the description. The first set of batteries I put in lasted me weeks and weeks! If you don't play it all day long, it will last you a long time.
The short cord is also just fine. Seriously, why would you need a long cord? It's very easy to wrap up and transport. It fits in any bag or purse.
I would recommend the Altec Lansing Orbit Speaker System to anyone who wants a quality speaker for their iPod!(29 of 31 people found this review useful)

However: there are two things that I dislike. First, the cable to connect the speaker to a music player or phone is really short -- not even 6". Second, the placement of the on-off switch is such that it can be turned on by accident when the unit is being zipped into the case -- leading to a draining of battery power. A workaround for this problem is to place the speaker in the case with the on-off switch lined up with the hinge.
Without these two issues, I'd have given this speaker 5 stars instead of 4.(208 of 220 people found this review useful)
