    Works well, sort of...

This does what it says on the box, but only when DIRECTLY connected to an iPod via the bottom port.

I have a Universal Dock that I connect using this cable to the RCA inputs on my sound system amplifier.

If I connect the cable directly to the iPod it works perfectly, however, if I connect the cable to a Universal Dock the output signal is so low that I have to increase the volume on the amplifier to about 3 times more! I have tried using different input ports and changing the trim levels, no good.

    NOT compatible with iPhone 3GS

The Apple online store in Australia states that this cable is compatible with the iPhone 3GS. On the basis of this information I went to the retail store in Sydney and purchased one. When I got home and connected it up I was unable to get any audio or video out to the TV. I checked all connections were correct and then visited the support pages which advise that the composite cable is not compatible with iPhone 3GS see Article: HT145 . I called Apple tech support and after speaking with a senior tech learned that I would either need to purchase an Apple universal dock (another AUD$69) or exchange the composite for a component cable to get the desired outcome. All the staff I've spoken to have been pleasant and helpful so no complaints there. I just wish I'd had this information before I went to the shop.

Can't fault this product for quality. It's awesome. So far I've used it on the iPod Touch 2nd Gen. Video, photo slide show's and music all work perfect. In the box you also get a charger and plugs for England and Europe which for me is excellent as I've often thought of buying the travel adapter, but now I don't have to.

The Cable quality is of the highest standard and the connectors are brushed aluminium and of amazing quality. The only thing I would say is LEAVE THE PROTECTIVE STICKY LABELS ON! I took mine off and when I connected it to the TV I couldn't get them off again as I couldn't get a grip on them as they were a snug fit on the TV. I've since retrieved the labels from the bin and they have a tab to grab to help pull.

Other than that this well worth getting as now when I travel I have my own media player, and if you buy the dock you then have a remote for the ipod too. Some have said expensive, but you get what you pay for with Apple.

I looked around for a universal AV cable in a Maplin store for my iPhone but spent ages looking and didn't find the right connection. I went to the Apple store and splashed out 3 times more than what I would have paid in Maplin.

It works perfect, but only on modern TV's. I had to spend a little time figuring out which coloured lead went where, especially when one particular colour didn't exist on the back of my TV!

In the end I found a TV in my house that only took a couple of seconds to set up and it worked fine. Great product and I suppose it's priced the same as every other Apple product - expensiveish!

This product is brilliant and does exactly what it says on the tin. This is the one for analogue televisions. The charger is brilliant as it comes with both a UK and continental adaptor. If I were you I wouldn't buy anything other than one made by apple as it is such great quality

Bought it & was received in 48 hours. Have an iPhone 3g & connected straight into tv. I've had a slide show playing with my choice of music from my iPod playing in the background NO PROBLEM! Movies look & sound great on my new 46" tv too! All that & now I've got a spare charger too. A great buy - would recommend!

Does pretty much everything - almost...!

Bought this last week and have been playing around with it for a few days now and have to say - its pretty good!

The leads do everything that I expected them to do. Some reviews have stated that the lead does not work with the iPhone 3G - well, I can promise - it does work...!!!

The best thing about this is that you get a charger in the box as well and as there is also a USB connector lead attached to the cables, you can plug in the yellow(for video), red and white (audio left and right) leads into your tv and at the same time, plug in the USB lead into the charger so you can basically watch video from your device while at the same time - charging it. Wicked...!!

I do have 1 issue though (hence why I have only given it 4 out of 5 stars) and that is, although you can also play a slideshow, on your tv, from the 'Photos' section on the iPhone - I found that you can't play any music full stop.

I would have like to be able to play a slide show of my photos while at the same time playing some music as well. But its a minor quibble,

All in all - a great product.

A great piece of kit but i-phone users BEWARE!

In amongst the stock of identically boxed cables on Apple store shelves are some which, despite saying that they are compatible, are NOT COMPATIBLE with the i-phone. They work fine on the i-pod Touch, but do not transfer out the video signal if connected to either an original or i-phone 3G.

I took my first cable back to the Apple store and it was immediately replaced with another from the same shelf which proved to work perfectly when tested on the in-store TV.

The only way to ensure that the cable is compatible with your i-phone is to attach the 30-pin connector to your phone and reject any cable that prompts the display of a "not made for i-phone" message. Better still, ask for it to be tested in store on their TV!

All that said, product and Apple store service are excellent hence the 4 star rating.

I borrowed an AV Cable from a friend who purchased it somewhere other than Apple. Only got Audio from playing video playback and no photo viewing. Dont bother doing this. Buy the Official Apple cables as they have a specific chip in them to allow full compatibiliey with iphone 3G. Works great, watch videos, view your photo slideshows and watch the iplayers from bbc etc. A Must have accessory for the Iphone 3G!! Top Marks!! All we need now is a wireless remote so you dont have to keep getting up to pause the film and play again!!

Attention iBook Dual USB/iBook G4 Users: If you have this cable for your iPod, try hooking it up to your computer's Line Out jack and see what happens. If all goes well, you should see a copy of your computer's main screen on your TV. It's great for transferring iPhoto slideshows to VHS, Keynote presentations, viewing websites on your TV, even gaming. Despite its hefty price tag, I would highly recommend getting this cable.

Had ummmd and ahhhhd about buying this for a few days, read other reviews on here and decided to take the plunge.
Cannot recommend this highly enough. Although it has no instructions it didn't need them as everything is obvious. Unwrapped it, connected it to telly and ipod (classic) and was watching video straight away, ( was lucky that all settings were correct - check these before use).
Quality varies on what you're watching - youtube podcasts iffy, rented films fantastic, (am getting an HD telly soon and can't wait now).
Has enhanced even further the ipod experience.
    Brilliant.

.....there is just one slight flaw with these and other similar cables with the lovely brushed aluminium connectors. That is if it's a bit of a tight fit when you connect them well, trying to disconnect them can be a struggle as the connectors are so smooth your fingers just cant grip the wee blighters. But they do look nice though.

iPhone 3G Users: Forget about this thing.
    • Written by AM from Harpenden
    • Dec 31, 2008

I bought this along with the Apple Universal Dock. I thought I was going to have a lot of fun with it. However, because I have the iPhone 3G, I cannot use this to its full potential. Why? Because it only supports audio with the iPhone 3G but supports both audio and video with the iPhone. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? Despite saying on the site it's compatible with the iPhone 3G, which I agree with - but you can only use it for audio. So, I'm sure you'd love to connect your iPhone 3G up to your TV just to listen with a blank screen. Why wasn't there a warning on the page saying that you cannot get both audio and video by using this product with the iPhone 3G?

Quite simply it's pathetic and why you can't make the most of this product with the iPhone 3G is beyond me. At the end of the day there's not much difference between it and the normal iPhone.

I've been ripped off by Apple again. They charge a stupid amount for the iPhone 3G in the first place, and they charge a stupid amount for just a cable which is not compatible with its number one product.

I have an iPhone 3G, and even though the store says it is -- it is *not* compatible. Plugging this into my phone gives "Accessory not supported" and asks me to go to airplane mode -- no matter what I say to that prompt, video out does not work and the audio hisses really badly.
