Connect your DSL or cable modem to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is included for both Mac OS X and Windows. In minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos, and more — without wires.2
Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi. 
For maximum range and compatibility, AirPort Extreme works simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. And AirPort Extreme uses the latest 802.11n wireless technology so you can enjoy up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.3
Guest networking.
Now you can set up a separate Wi-Fi network with a separate password for your visitors. Simply enable the new guest networking feature, and your guests can use the Internet but can't access other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers, and attached hard drives.
Print without wires.
Have several computers in your home or office but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a compatible printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and the printer instantly becomes available to all the computers (Mac and PC) on your wireless or wired network. Share your hard drive.
You can share an external USB hard drive over your wireless and wired networks by simply connecting it to the USB port on your AirPort Extreme Base Station. Called AirPort Disk, this feature is perfect for sharing files, and more. If you're a MobileMe member using a Mac, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.4

We just bought the airport extreme base station a few hours ago and it is now up and running without a hitch. We have a PC, macbo…Read moreok, PS3 and iPod touch all living in perfect harmony!!! This is our first ever router and I hope everyone would have the same (good) experience as us. Folks, hooking up all our devices to the base station was not rocket science... after taking the unit out of the box, installing the required app, just plug the unit to an outlet and the required cables and voila -- it's up and running!!!

I'm throwing the old router (not Apple) away. It was unreliable. Mac gear just tends to reduce techno-stress in my life (I used PCs for many years before switching 3 yrs. ago). Don't want to sound like an advertisement, but 30 or so extra bucs is well worth saving the headache.
Four stars. For five, I'd want firewire to connect to my external drive (although perhaps it wouldn't matter much when wireless).Was this useful?

I tried one of the…Read more new Linksys routers that no longer has the antennas and had nothing but problems. Throughput was not that good, the USB drive connection was inconsistent. Also the range was mediocre. Setup was not a problem, but for a non-technical person, it would be a nightmare. Airport throughput is blazing, wireless range is phenomenal, the USB drive works flawlessly, and the unit's setup is a few click and done. Who can't do this?? Since I had to set up for my Slingbox and Remote desktop, I had to do a little more, but it was simple and just works! Excellent Product!

My previous well-known router, which shall remain nameless, worked well when it was working, but every time I had a serious proble…Read morem with my computer, it had to be set up again. I couldn't figure out how to do this and the manufacturer's tech support was of no help, so I had to pay $100 to $150 to have someone come out and set it up for me. This happened 3 times in 3 years. This week after the manufacturer took 19 email messages to tell me he couldn't help me, I decided to spend $179 for Airport Extreme instead of $150 for another service call. I did need help setting it up, but Apple Tech Support had me up and running on three computers within half an hour. And I am amazed at how much faster the internet works now.
