Great Display for the money..but

You will need and additional mini port to regular dvi if you want to connect to the older models which is not included. The internal speakers, well in a word..horrible, don't know why apple bothered to waste their time on such bad speakers when they could of used the money for something else like external controls for the monitor. Don't bother watching a movie or playing a game on this display unless you fix the problem by adding external speakers to you mac mini or what ever you are using. The Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel) would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the bad internal speakers.

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Just fantastic

I bought this yesterday and felt I had to come and review it straightaway, after using it for about a day now. It is every bit as …Read moregood as most of the reviews on here suggest!
It is very easy to set up and works straight out of the box. The screen itself looks as good as it possibly could, and is easy to arrange so that you can hide the wires, including the USB ones, behind the central stand.
And the quality is just fantastic! The screen is a joy to look at and is massive - there's lots of room to have several windows open just on the screen, but if you use your macbook to extend the area you can have everything open at the same time. It has a great range of brightness and of screen tilt, so it's easy to get the best setup for your needs. I'm in a pretty bright room and don't have problems with the reflection - no more than on my macbook already.
The only useful tip for those setting up for the first time is that you need to format the audio and camera for each program (e.g. Skype, iChat) but as with all things apple this is pretty straightforward.
I spent a while before buying this reading all the reviews and yes, the lead's not the world's longest, but it reaches fine to your macbook which can either be open or shut elsewhere on the desk. It seems lots of people have bought this for the wrong computer but it does explain quite clearly on the product descriptions which ones it's designed for.
If you're trying to decide whether or not to buy this, I'd say go for it. You won't be disappointed. I'm definitely not!
Thanks Apple for another great product!!

Wonderful Display (if you can get over the limited compatibility)

It took several visits to the Apple store to get comfortable with the idea of making this purchase. To drop a cool grand on a dis…Read moreplay that can only be connected at this point (Feb 09) to the new Mac Books is a difficult notion to get ones head around. There are several other excellent options out there, the Dell 2408wfp was also on my list. The Dell has more connection options than you could possibly make use of, has very good image quality, an integrated card reader, several USB ports and so on. The Dell is also at least $300 cheaper. The Apple LED on the other had has only mini display port and 3 USB ports.
So why did I go with this display? Simply put the image quality is incredible. Some will suggest this display can't be considered colour accurate, and that it is not suitable for photographers etc. I'm sure this may apply to true professionals, but as a hobby photographer, the colour accuracy suits my needs extremely well. Despite rumors to the contrary, I did not have any trouble calibrating this display with my Spyder2 Pro.
The LED back light is wonderful and I love the glossy screen. I work in a North facing room, and I keep the lights low in the evening. I have not experienced any issues with glare, non, what so ever. The integrated USB, Magsafe, iSight camera and mini display port adapters make this the perfect accessory for the Mac Book. The integrated speakers are decent too, not great but acceptable. I suspect the new models of the i Mac, Mac Mini and Pro will also be able to use this display when they are released.
So in summary, yes this is a very expensive display compared to some of the competition, but if you have the cash I highly recommend this product. It really is awesome.
Apple, if your looking for an opinion, add a few more USB ports, drop the price some and release adapters for older Mac Books.(658 of 745 people found this review useful)

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Ambiguously Specialized Yet ...
Written by IC from Washington

The name of this product, Apple LED Cinema Display, offers no indication that it's specialized for laptops with a Mini DisplayPort…Read more. We purchased it with a Mac Pro, assuming that it was the newest rev of a product that's historically been compatible with standard DVI ports.
There is no adapter available to port Mini DiplayPort to DVI.
There is no Mini DisplayPort expansion card for the Mac Pro through this vendor. (I dunno bout the others.)
We will be sending it back, and wondering why the 23" is no longer available for our new Mac Pro, and other DVI-ported machines, and annoyed about the resulting downtime for our enduser.

I think this is an awesome display as far as styling and quality go but I see a few flaws.

- Not high resolution (17" MBP runs same res as 24" cinema)

- Speakers do not compensate for the price
This will probably get much improvement in the next refresh.(643 of 808 people found this review useful)
