Great product - but not enough info from Apple Phone Sales

I've had my MacPro and 24" Cinema Display for a week now, and could not be any happier with the stunning display! Like many other…Read more MacPro users, I was not aware of the short cord issue (read the reviews, duh!) Fortunately, my current setup works very well, but now I have a new problem. My once-satisfactory desk, next to my shiny new MacPro and under this incredible monitor, looks really shabby. I'm finding that the short cord of the Cinema display, without tha availablility of a reasonably-priced extension, limits the options for a new desk. I'm not complaining here, since I'll enjoy the process of looking for a suitable desk to show off my new hardware - just letting others know what I found out after I made the purchase. I am still VERY pleased with the display, and have no problems with any glare (light in room comes from north and east windows). In any case, great product, Apple! Just please help us MacPro users out with an extension for the mini-display cable (USB cable extender was included).

Awesome Display

I love this display!! It works great for my Macbook and my son's MBP..!!! Not being a graphics designer/re-toucher.. I don't mind…Read more the glossiness but can see where that may be a problem. Also, this Monitor is not marketed to Mac Pro's or desktop computers, it is specifically marketed towards Apple Laptops (Macbooks/MBPs) hence the short cord. This is probably the reason why so many people are having problems with the short cord. While I agree that the cord should be longer, the target market for Apple I believe is the laptop market.

I love Apple and have been a diehard user for the past 18 years....but the new Cinema Display's cable is ridiculously short. Forget about putting your Mac Pro on the floor....what were you thinking Apple???? I'm going to start looking for another monitor and return this sucker.

Wonderful Display (if you can get over the limited compatibility)

It took several visits to the Apple store to get comfortable with the idea of making this purchase. To drop a cool grand on a dis…Read moreplay that can only be connected at this point (Feb 09) to the new Mac Books is a difficult notion to get ones head around. There are several other excellent options out there, the Dell 2408wfp was also on my list. The Dell has more connection options than you could possibly make use of, has very good image quality, an integrated card reader, several USB ports and so on. The Dell is also at least $300 cheaper. The Apple LED on the other had has only mini display port and 3 USB ports.
So why did I go with this display? Simply put the image quality is incredible. Some will suggest this display can't be considered colour accurate, and that it is not suitable for photographers etc. I'm sure this may apply to true professionals, but as a hobby photographer, the colour accuracy suits my needs extremely well. Despite rumors to the contrary, I did not have any trouble calibrating this display with my Spyder2 Pro.
The LED back light is wonderful and I love the glossy screen. I work in a North facing room, and I keep the lights low in the evening. I have not experienced any issues with glare, non, what so ever. The integrated USB, Magsafe, iSight camera and mini display port adapters make this the perfect accessory for the Mac Book. The integrated speakers are decent too, not great but acceptable. I suspect the new models of the i Mac, Mac Mini and Pro will also be able to use this display when they are released.
So in summary, yes this is a very expensive display compared to some of the competition, but if you have the cash I highly recommend this product. It really is awesome.
Apple, if your looking for an opinion, add a few more USB ports, drop the price some and release adapters for older Mac Books.(457 of 520 people found this review useful)

I think this is an awesome display as far as styling and quality go but I see a few flaws.
- Mac Mini-DP does not play sound (w…Read moreas hoping to convert to HDMI and watch on TV, cant)
- Not high resolution (17" MBP runs same res as 24" cinema)
- Almost $1000 after tax
- Not much noticeable color improvement over Mac's current LED displays.
- Speakers do not compensate for the price
This will probably get much improvement in the next refresh.(495 of 616 people found this review useful)

Ambiguously Specialized Yet ...
Written by IC from Washington

The name of this product, Apple LED Cinema Display, offers no indication that it's specialized for laptops with a Mini DisplayPort…Read more. We purchased it with a Mac Pro, assuming that it was the newest rev of a product that's historically been compatible with standard DVI ports.
There is no adapter available to port Mini DiplayPort to DVI.
There is no Mini DisplayPort expansion card for the Mac Pro through this vendor. (I dunno bout the others.)
We will be sending it back, and wondering why the 23" is no longer available for our new Mac Pro, and other DVI-ported machines, and annoyed about the resulting downtime for our enduser.
