  2. (2) 1GB = 1 billion bytes; 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual formatted capacity less.
  3. (3) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access; fees may apply. Some ISPs are not currently compatible with Time Capsule.
  4. (4) Performance is based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes Time Capsule-based network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.

    Beware

I have been a huge Apple fan since my first Mac SE, but this product was a total waste of money. Has never worked, at all. You shoRead moreuld also be aware that Apple has deleted all sorts of negative reviews on the Time Capsule. Very unethical. So buy this piece of junk at your own risk. I believe most, if not all, of the positive reviews here are plants from Apple employees.

    Slow data transfer

    Written by DB from Brooklyn

    Apr 19, 2009

Having owned an Airport Extreme base station and used Firewire external hard drives to store my iTunes and photo content in the paRead morest, I figured it would be a step up to go for the Time Capsule 1 TB.

After copying my 300 GB iTunes library on to the Time Capsule, it seems to choke every once in a while. Video is choppy and constantly buffering. Music drops in and out, especially if a back-up is running.

If you want to stream your media wirelessly, this product is not the most reliable based on my experience. My media played perfectly when connected to my Mac via Firewire, but the wireless media transfer speed on this unit seems to be insufficient. How disappointing! Especially for the price. This should be a premium product.

On the positive front, the wireless back-ups are ultra convenient. Set up was easy. In fact I was able to create a wireless network comprised of my Time Capsule, Airport Extreme and Airport Express without any trouble.

    Apple's worst product ever!

    Written by TO from Draper

I replaced a lowly Microsoft-branded base station with this 1TB Time Capsule and have had nothing but trouble. Everything worked pRead moreerfectly before: AirPort Express connected to my stereo for flawless AirTunes, MacBook Pro, iMac, PowerBook G4, PC running XP, 2 iPhone 3Gs, PS3 and an HP printer connected via Ethernet. Now with the TIme Capsule, NOTHING WILL STAY CONNECTED TO IT. It is constantly dropping connections, requiring re-entry of passwords, extremely SLOW file transfers, and screeching/glitching iTunes playback. I have wasted hours of reconfiguring and hours on the phone with Apple Specialists who constantly contradict each other. This product is severely flawed. My first clue was when copying a 2 GB file took over 40 hours. If you google Time Capsule, you'll find thousands of people have the same sorts of trouble-- especially if they're running Leopard. And you'll also find that Apple has been utterly unresponsive in getting fixes out or even acknowledging the problems. They will just make you feel like it's your fault that this product doesn't work for you, when Wi-Fi products you can buy for $50 now work perfectly in the most complex of networks. Mine is going back to the Apple Store this week-- the Time Capsule is a severely flawed product.

Now the best of BOTH worlds!

I just picked mine up today from the Apple Store 5th Avenue!

I must say the new feature of creating both a personal network anRead mored a guest network was something that Apple really needed to integrate. Now you can securely allow friends to connect without feeling guilty about handing out your sensitive password.

The best part about the Time Capsule which is overlooked is the ability to PARTITION the drive. Get a 1 TB, partition for 200GB of storage and Viola! now you have a wireless hard drive AND a way to back everything up. This is especially useful if you have a large iTunes folder... and if you have HD videos you know why space is so precious!

    Product Review

Apple can only make devices as simple as they are. This device is an wireless access point, a shared hard drive, a usb printer shaRead morere, and a Time machine backup device.

Also rememeber, internal hard drives on the newer systems are bigger and when you perform your first backup, please plug in a network cable, then after the first wired backup, you can do the incrementals wireless. if you are a power user and manipulate files that are large and change daily get ready to wait if your connection is wireless.

I have setup 1,000's of these and like all products from any manufacturer, some are bad. If you experience intermittent behavior from the begining, take it to the Apple Store and trade it in for a new one or get the Genius to look at it.

    Awesome

I have a Mac Pro with 4TB and then two laptops - one with a 320 gig HD and the other with a 160 gig. I used the 500 TB to back upRead more both laptops with out any hitch. The dual band rocks and works perfect for the mac's in the house and now i'm also able to hook up the WII and other devices with out any problems. This works perfect. I got the 1 tb at first and realized that there is no way my wife and I are going to use the 1TB back storage and changed it out to change to the 500 to save some money.

Also have a 4 TB EXT for the Mac Pro - that hooks directly too it. I would not want to have to try and restore that through wi-fi.

It works as promised and with the new mobile me addition to the account, it is the perfect afp ;).
