Overview

Wireless backup for Mac OS X Leopard.

Networking icon

Easy wireless networking.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is included for both Mac OS X and Windows. In minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos, and more — without wires.2

Dual Band icon

Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi. NEW

For maximum range and compatibility, AirPort Extreme works simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. And AirPort Extreme uses the latest 802.11n wireless technology so you can enjoy up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.3

Guest Networking icon

Guest networking. NEW

Now you can set up a separate Wi-Fi network with a separate password for your visitors. Simply enable the new guest networking feature, and your guests can use the Internet but can't access other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers, and attached hard drives.

Printer icon

Print without wires.

Have several computers in your home or office but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a compatible printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and the printer instantly becomes available to all the computers (Mac and PC) on your wireless or wired network. (See system requirements.)

Drive Sharing icon

Share your hard drive.

You can share an external USB hard drive over your wireless and wired networks by simply connecting it to the USB port on your AirPort Extreme Base Station. Called AirPort Disk, this feature is perfect for sharing files, and more. If you're a MobileMe member using a Mac, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.4

Security icon

Strong security and access control.

Rest easy — AirPort Extreme takes strong measures to prevent unauthorized intrusion into your wireless network. It offers a built-in firewall and supports industry-standard encryption technologies including WPA/WPA2 and 128-bit WEP. Yet it's still easy for authorized users to connect to the base station, thanks to its simple setup utility and powerful access controls.

This beats all the wireless routers I has seen so far - hands down. Whether you are on MAC or PC.
Do not even bother at looking aRead moret others. Also, a plus for MAC users, it uses the 802.11n protocol which is even faster than the 802.11a through 802.11g versions for PC's !!!!!

    Amazing Range & Speed

The guest networking feature was my impetus for upgrading from my old AirPort to a new AirPort Extreme; after setting it up and usRead moreing it for a few days I realize I should have upgraded a long time ago. First this thing is fast! I always thought my internet connection was slow, turns out it was my wireless. Secondly the range is much, much better than my old dome shaped AirPort. This product is a breeze to setup with the Airport Utility built into every Mac and there is a CD in the box with the same software for Windows. It's also really well built, compared to other brands it's at least two or three times their weight. I can't say enough good things about this product.

    What a Relief!

My previous well-known router, which shall remain nameless, worked well when it was working, but every time I had a serious probleRead morem with my computer, it had to be set up again. I couldn't figure out how to do this and the manufacturer's tech support was of no help, so I had to pay $100 to $150 to have someone come out and set it up for me. This happened 3 times in 3 years. This week after the manufacturer took 19 email messages to tell me he couldn't help me, I decided to spend $179 for Airport Extreme instead of $150 for another service call. I did need help setting it up, but Apple Tech Support had me up and running on three computers within half an hour. And I am amazed at how much faster the internet works now.
