    Disaster

You know... when I look at this product, I wonder what the mentally of microsoft is when making it. I have never seen a product wiRead moreth such poor performance on any mac available. And I mean ANY MAC. I have an 8 core mac pro and the new unibody macbook pro and yet this product performs at awful speeds. If it is not the speed, it is the lack of features. You would think that microsoft would integrate their technology of office 2007 to the mac and make it even better but in fact, it is much worse. The ribbon on the mac version is a real joke. This is a dont buy, iWork is much better than this.

    Awesome!

I work as a contractor for a company that uses all MS based programs. I use 08 for MAC and it works just great! All the files arRead moree fine, no conversion necessary. Excel acts a little strange sometimes and will run into some conversion problems with colors, but other than that, it's awesome. Entourage is flawless and easy to use, way better than mac email programs. Only downsize is syncing with the iphone, but you can still easily convert your calendar and contacts syncing entourage and mac mail together so that you have all the info you need for work or school.

    A Wonderful Tool!

I received this software with my new aluminum MacBook for Christmas. I installed it on Christmas Day and it took literally 10 minuRead moretes to install. So far I have used it and it has been great. It works very well and has everything that I need as a student. I recommend this software for any student who needs to word process, create spreadsheets, and create slideshow presentations. Also it has Microsoft Entourage which is good for e-mail (though I do not use Entourage). I did not want iWork because I was more used to using Microsoft Office on other computers before I got this MacBook for Christmas. I was not familiar with iWork. Overall, I have had no problems with Office, and it is the best software a student could have.

    No VBA, great interface

    Written by GL from Sacramento

    Jan 16, 2008

There's some pronounced pluses, but a big minus for power users like me.

Plus #1 is that it's Universal. As someone who runs aRead more MacBook pro, I found that to be a huge plus. The speed improvement is noticeable.
Plus #2 is the interface. It's REALLY smooth, intuitive, and well-done.
Plus #3 is PowerPoint. The makeover is just right.

The big minus is no VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). If you use VBA to automate processes in Office, it's gone from 2008. Not coming back.

But if you don't need VBA, and have never used it, it's well worth it.

Excel 2008 not for power users

Written by RJ from Sierra Madre

    Jan 19, 2008

The elimination of VBA from Excel 2008 means that users who depend on features like Solver, histograms, extended statistical analyRead moreses (such as ANOVA), and custom VBA enhancements are left out in the cold. We are left with two options: (1)stay with Excel 2004 or (2)buy the Windows version (Excel 2007). The first option penalizes Intel-based Mac users with reduced performance. I've reluctantly gone with the second option - which requires Vista or XP and Parallels (or similar program). The other problem with this approach is the new "Ribbon" interface to the Office products. Expect to lose a couple of weeks of productivity as your learn how to locate your favorite functions.
