Office 2008 for Mac - Home and Student Edition
Generally very good

The software is generally very self explanatory, rather useful and universal in terms of file transfer.
My main complaint is Ento…Read moreurage's inability to deal with hotmail accounts. Rather disappointing, as the software itself looked very promising.
Also why no webcam support on personal Windows Live Accounts? I don't know if it's the petty rivalry or bitterness on Microsoft's behalf, but it seems ridiculous that webcam is available on the business accounts (I don't know any local businesses that use Windows Live ) and not on personal accounts, where it would most commonly be used. Was this useful?

It's not bad

I'm a college student and I've even taken business classes exclusively for Office 08, and after buying Office 08 for mac all I can…Read more say is that its NOT the same thing. First off if your at all knowledgeable with the real (windows based) Office 2007 there is a trademark toolbar called "the ribbon" which Office for mac simply doesn't have. Now they have all the same things but the mac application is NOT the same as the windows program (office 2007), It just seems misleading. Lastly I have never had Office for mac crash and I like the ability to save your documents in multiple formats. Over all its a bit more expensive then I think its worth, but its way more practical then iwork though I'm sure Mac did a fantastic job with iwork, but if you intend on moving your documents to different computers Office for mac is sadly your only option. Unless you just buy Vista and Office 2007 for your mac which is just seems to be a real waste of money for a program that is basically the same.

MS office 2008 works well

This software works very well it has opened all my word 2007 and excel 2007 documents perfectly if you are used to the office 2007…Read more layout on PC you will need a few minutes to adjust to the layout and menus in office 2008 but every thing is exactly where you would expect to find it.
I found it did some things better than office 2007 and other things not so well but after using iwork09 if compatibilty with PC is your main concern you cant go past this package.
both word and excel are much more powerful in my opinion than their counterparts in iwork09.
I have experienced no crashes and no real bugs or glitches.
one of my spreadsheets with over 16 sheets and up to 60 vlookup functions per page searching an array with over 100 records runs quite fine with the only noticable slow down when also running a vista virtual machine, the slow down is merely a slight fraction of a second lag while calculatiing the sheet.
the package also includes messenger for mac which was a pleasant suprise and the wireless mouse that came for free made the software price comparable with iwork. Was this useful?

No VBA, great interface
Written by GL from Sacramento

There's some pronounced pluses, but a big minus for power users like me.
Plus #1 is that it's Universal. As someone who runs a…Read more MacBook pro, I found that to be a huge plus. The speed improvement is noticeable.
Plus #2 is the interface. It's REALLY smooth, intuitive, and well-done.
Plus #3 is PowerPoint. The makeover is just right.
The big minus is no VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). If you use VBA to automate processes in Office, it's gone from 2008. Not coming back.
But if you don't need VBA, and have never used it, it's well worth it.

Excel 2008 not for power users

The elimination of VBA from Excel 2008 means that users who depend on features like Solver, histograms, extended statistical analy…Read moreses (such as ANOVA), and custom VBA enhancements are left out in the cold. We are left with two options: (1)stay with Excel 2004 or (2)buy the Windows version (Excel 2007). The first option penalizes Intel-based Mac users with reduced performance. I've reluctantly gone with the second option - which requires Vista or XP and Parallels (or similar program). The other problem with this approach is the new "Ribbon" interface to the Office products. Expect to lose a couple of weeks of productivity as your learn how to locate your favorite functions.
