This is by far the slowest piece of garbage I have ever used in my life. It takes forever to load, constantly crashes, and doesn't…Read more even allow one to make basic charts in excel. Everything about this program is frustrating and gives its user a massive headache. Apple should ban this product from its store and tell Microsoft to eat its losses- then again, I guess no one should be surprised considering that Microsoft is the one who made it. Save your money.

When I bought Office 2008 for Mac - Home & Student for my personal use at home, it was mainly as I'd used Windows my whole life up…Read more to that point and I wanted to cling on to something I knew, like many people coming from Windows, you want to stay with what you know - it does the job, just as you'd expect, it's familiar - only without THAT paperclip. If you want to cling onto what you know, this is for you.
If you want to go a little further, and save a bit of money, try iWork '09 though. I switched over and it does cast a shadow over Office, hence the 4 stars.(4 of 5 people found this review useful)

Office package as we know it with just different GUI on Mac. I work with lot of office documents and haven't experienced some majo…Read morer problems. Let me be honest here: It does freeze once in a while (as all Microsoft products) and does not support Macros, but for normal family usage, shouldn't be any major problems.
Bottom line review: It is an average Microsoft product as many of us are used to. If you can avoid office file system, so go for iWork. If not, then buy a copy of Office for Mac without expecting any positive suprises.(2 of 2 people found this review useful)

Plus #1 is that it's Universal. As someone who runs a…Read more MacBook pro, I found that to be a huge plus. The speed improvement is noticeable.
Plus #2 is the interface. It's REALLY smooth, intuitive, and well-done.
Plus #3 is PowerPoint. The makeover is just right.
The big minus is no VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). If you use VBA to automate processes in Office, it's gone from 2008. Not coming back.
But if you don't need VBA, and have never used it, it's well worth it.

Excel 2008 not for power users

The elimination of VBA from Excel 2008 means that users who depend on features like Solver, histograms, extended statistical analy…Read moreses (such as ANOVA), and custom VBA enhancements are left out in the cold. We are left with two options: (1)stay with Excel 2004 or (2)buy the Windows version (Excel 2007). The first option penalizes Intel-based Mac users with reduced performance. I've reluctantly gone with the second option - which requires Vista or XP and Parallels (or similar program). The other problem with this approach is the new "Ribbon" interface to the Office products. Expect to lose a couple of weeks of productivity as your learn how to locate your favorite functions.
