Believe the Hype - The Harman Kardon Soundsticks rock !

Dont usually write reviews, but I scour the net to see what other people say about stuff before plumping money on the table.
After having these being delivered this afternoon & hooking them up, I can honestly say these are the best speakers I have had - WOW.
Without gushing too much, they look as good as the promo images, mid's & treble are crisp & bass has an air of deepness that any music lover will appreciate.
Setup was a cinch & I found the whole package of high quality oozing 'does what is says on the tin' appeal.
One final point, you will have prob seen user reviews saying there is no on/off switch and they are on 2-7..
NEWSFLASH - subwoofer unit has a bass dial on the back, as per the multi-lingual manual, if you press the dial, you turn the unit off & in true modern fashion, if you press the dial again, you turn the speaker system on !
Another technical marvel from Harmon Kardon - RECOMMENDED BUY - you will not be disappointed and will smile when you have them, knowing you made a wise purchasing choice !!(3 of 3 people found this review useful)

Last year i was shopping for good 2.1 speakers. i was looking at bose comp. 3's. but i saw these at the apple store fifth avenue and i listened to them, and they are much better. i have purchased many speakers before and none were as good as these. They have amazing clarity for the price. i always enjoy listening to my iTunes with these. excellent purchase, i have never looked back.

Owned for one year...still #1

Still the greatest "dedicated" computer speakers out there. I still go out and shop/listen to other newly released speakers to see if I need to replace them, but nothing else creates the beautiful spatial quality that you experience with this speaker system. When you go loud, it stays clear. Nothing else is as stylish either, in my opinion. I'd plunk down twice as much as they are priced to have them. I consider myself more critical than the average listener...not a pro, but I do appreciate this kind of stuff. I have a home theater driven by Pioneer Elite components through Definitive Tech and Klipsh speakers...I have Apple TV connected to that setup when I want to super-crank tunes. Just buy these...you can stop reading reviews now. You're driving yourself crazy.

I purchased the Sound Sticks a few hours ago from the London Regent Street Apple Store and I was compelled to leave a review. I have got to say that they are superb. They look so cool but more importantly the sound is awesome! I would highly recommend these to anyone!

Work great with my TV

I bought these speakers for my LCD HDTV, because its built-in speakers aren't very good. Setup was simple -- I just plugged them into the TV's headphone jack and was ready to go.
I'm not an audiophile, but I have excellent hearing, and I'm easily driven crazy by white noise/static or humming sounds. With these, I don't hear any odd background noise during silent scenes -- just silence! Music, dialogue and everything else sounds crisp and clean through them, and the bass can go much louder than I need it to.
I've seen many people say that these can't be turned off, but mine can -- the instruction booklet says that you can push the subwoofer's volume knob in to shut down the system, and it works -- the knob clicks when you push it, the speakers go silent and the blue light goes out.(34 of 35 people found this review useful)

great sound...for a while

For a year I was very happy with the Soundsticks, they looked great sounding punchy & full. Then a loud buzzing suddenly started coming from the sub woofer unit, eventually they failed completely. I e-mailed Harmon Kardon for advice on having them repaired but they couldn't even be bothered to reply, rubbish customer service! Avoid.

Nice look, nice sound

These speakers have been with me now for about 3 weeks having been purchased shortly after my iMac to give a nice looking clean and tidy set up. I confess I had been drawn to these speakers for the "fancy look" and of course having read some good reviews about their sound quality. Initially I was surprised how big they were compared to how I remembered them when I had glanced at them in the Apple store. They are certainly sturdy and seem very stable and they sit very nicely alongside the iMac. The bass unit is another story, yes it is stable but.....it is nearly as big as a football and the ideal location is apparently on a stone floor under your set up although of course you won't want to hide away that fancy blue look nor the on/off and bass adjustment button on it. I have set my bass unit up on a shelf immediately above my iMac and all is well and it emits a nice blue understated glow in the room. As others have said the speakers do not have lights. These units require you to use the earphone socket to make them work. The other wire up connections are slightly on the fiddly side and I would not advise un connecting it all too often once everything is in place because the power connector to the bass unit looks small and potentially a weak point with connector bending potential. As for the sound....really really good, and I can highly recommend them.

I keep these in my living room

I recently decided to place my entire cd collection on a hard disk in lossless format. And then I got an Onkyo SE-U55sx external sound card from Japan. With this between the iBook with the music and my amplifier, I had exactly the sound quality I was used to.
Then I bought the Soundsticks to attach to my iMac in another room. I really loved the crisp sound of them. When I tried them out combined with the Onkyo card the result was absolutely stunning. So, they stayed in the living room and I had to buy another set for my office.
And for the record: the amplifier and speakers they replaced were considerably more expensive than the Soundsticks. These things are amazing.(27 of 28 people found this review useful)

I bought these speakers at the weekend from the Apple Store and plugged them in yesterday. WOW, I'm well impressed with the sound that comes out of these sticks and subwoofer. Really like the look of them to and they compliment my Apple LCD monitor. Like the touch sensor volume control. Nearly bought the Bose Companion 2, but glad I got these instead. Very pleased!

I've had these speakers for a couple of years now and they haven't let me down. They've been rattled about in the back of my car a many times and still offer a high degree of sound quality. They look great and sound great, what more do you need?
