- (1) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access; fees may apply. Some ISPs are not currently compatible with Time Capsule.
- (2) Time Capsule is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g. Performance is based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes Time Capsule-based network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.

Time Capsule - 500 GB
Poor

The clever bit of the package is Time Machine which you already have and is brilliant. Save yourself money and get a cheaper hard…Read more drive (I have a silver Western Digital 500GB Passport which looks great, is USB powered and works faultlessly out of the box). I bought a time capsule which repeatedly failed to work. I had problems with wireless and wired connections. Often the device was not recognised by my brand new iMac (bought at the same time) and the speed the thing works at is absolutely dire. An initial backup was taking over 24 hours (which I had to repeat about five times trying to get it to work before I finally sent it back to Apple) whereas the WD drive managed it in 45 minutes! Gets one star because of Apples good technical support and customer service.

Hot, Slow & Disruptive

Well, it does the job. It backups up my mac wirelessly, and is a good router. But it is agonizingly slow, runs very hot, and disru…Read morepts my wireless mouse when backing up. It would be OK if I could set a schedule for backups (say, at 2 in the morning or during the day when I am at work). Do yourself a favor, and get a separate router (I loved my airport)and a good firewire drive for backup.

Time Capsule - 500 GB
A very flawed system

I was a massive Apple fan. Everything just worked and the hardware and software was so intuitive.
Unfortunately my Macbook froz…Read moree last week and horror upon horror my Time Capsule backup failed. Yes I had a part to play by switching the power off when the restore didn't seem to work and I wanted to try ethernet not wifi in the morning.
WHATEVER YOU DO LEAVE THE POWER ON AND LET IT RUN. You cannot cancel the restore when you have started it.
Two and a half years worth of data gone in a day.
The Time Machine software bundles all your data in one place, no matter how many times you back up. If that fails you have lost it all.
When it works it works well but when it fails you have had it. In essence to be safe you need to back up your back ups. This somewhat defeats the object of having an automatic back up system.
I wish I knew how vulnerable the system was before buying the Time Machine. That with Leopard is £300 down the drain.
The Apple store in Birmingham had no idea how to recover the date. Kroll are quoting £90 diagnosis and £460 to recover what they find.
Thanks Apple. I cannot trust something that is so vulnerable.(20 of 29 people found this review useful)

Time Capsule - 500 GB
Time Capsule, not quite up to Apple standard.

The speed and strength of signal is not quite as good as other wireless N routers. The base station also gets really hot. Make sure you keep it in a well ventilated area. There is also a glitch with Time Machine. The first time Time Machine backed up my hard drive it worked perfectly. Since then though, randomly, but frequently, when it starts an hourly back it will freeze my Mac Book. Which is the one of the main things I wanted to avoid when switching to MAC a couple of years ago. Lastly, the wifi tends to drop at random times requiring a reboot (not the pushing of the reset button on the back, but actually unplugging the station) of the router.

Terrific wi-fi signal, and automatic backup: what's not to like?

I have a full five bars all the time, and no drops from the network. The automatic backing up of both my laptop and my son's desktop (using Time Machine) is wonderful. In addition, I have moved a substantial audio library off of my laptop and onto Time Capsule, freeing up a big chunk of my laptop's hard drive. This device is exactly what I needed.
