I recently purchased iLife '09 and have been favourably impressed overall with performance upgrades over iLife '08.
The reaso…Read moren I bought iLife '09 was precisely due to the location features found in this new version. However due to a lack of locations that can be found outside of the US, more specifically in Canada, I give it 3 stars. I live in Lethbridge Alberta, the only city I can locate that is 'close' is Calgary Alberta (3 hours north of Lethbridge).
So for those don't claim the United States as your home, get ready to manually add your pictures to places using Google Maps. The same can be said of iMovie, and all other iLife features that incorporate locations.(54 of 62 people found this review useful)

iLife delivers with excellent added functionality in iPhoto, Garage Band and iMovie. It has kept me busy for hours and fired up lo…Read moreads of new ideas. iMovie especially has that ideal mix of ease of use and sophisticated results. I tried Final Cut and just got bogged down, thinking a just can't do it. With this upgrade, I feel I can and I do and so can the kids !

The problem is that iMovie '09 is extremely buggy and unstable! It doesn't do what it's supposed to half the time, full screen playback doesn't work, and I haven't been able to export a video. I have a video that is almost complete but the program just isn't working so I can't finish it! It's extremely frustrating! It's really absurd that Apple released a product that is this buggy!
So the bottom line is wait for Apple to fix the products and then they will be worth purchasing. Probably worthy of 4 stars if they work the way they are supposed to.(51 of 59 people found this review useful)

iPhoto is simply amazing and better than ever. Faces and Places really add that "umpf" factor to the photo library. I've got over 1300 pictures, and Faces is so helpful and fun. Places is so unique as well. It's fun to see all the geotagged locations that I have been to in the world. Add that to the ability to instantly upload to Facebook and Flickr and this program is worth it alone.
iMovie? Two words ...green screen. It's a riot and so much fun. iMovie is so, so much better than iMovie '08. So much of an improvement that it's hard to not use or enjoy iMovie. This will bring out the Spielberg (or Michael Bay) in us all. Yes, the video stabilization actually works well!
GarageBand is simply key for any musician out there. The new lessons are fantastic for both beginners and experts. The artist lessons are alright...nothing to be amazed over. I'm not going to pay $5 for Patrick Stump to teach me Fall Out Boy, but artist lessons are still great for some people. I hope that more free lessons are made available to more than just guitar and piano. The new amps and stomp boxes for guitars (and bass!!) are just awesome. Its literally like having your rig digitally emulated, so recording is a lot more fun and easy.
Those upgrades right there make this a must have for any iLife and Mac user. Is it worth the $79? Very much so.(399 of 438 people found this review useful)

The highlights from my vantage point so far... I love the site-specific publishing option in iWeb!! I have numerous sites and page…Read mores and previously had to switch users or computers to manage them all. I had opted to stick with iMovie HD vs iMovie '08 until now. With the latest improvements, iMovie '09 should meet most of my needs. The SHATTER slide show in iPhoto is really a lot of fun!! I am enjoying all of the features thus far and am looking forward to more time spent with Faces, Places, and Garage Band.
