Overview

Innovative Scroll Ball and Button

Perfectly positioned to roll smoothly under just one finger, Mighty Mouse's Scroll Ball offers full 360-degree scrolling capability — up/down, left/right and diagonally. You can scroll long web pages, pan full-size images, maneuver around large spreadsheets, control a video timeline and more. And you can even click the Scroll Ball to access your favorite Mac OS X features such as Dashboard, Spotlight or Exposé.

Touch-Sensitive Top Shell

It looks and feels like a sleek one-button mouse, but Mighty Mouse's smooth top shell hides a powerful secret: touch-sensitive technology under the shell detects which part of the mouse you're clicking, so you can both left-click and right-click. And if you prefer the simplicity of a classic one-button mouse, Mighty Mouse is up to the task. Just use the Mac OS X system preference panel to configure it how you want.

Force-Sensing Side Buttons

When you give Mighty Mouse a squeeze, force sensors on either side can be configured to activate Mac OS X features such as Dashboard, Exposé or a whole host of other customizable features.

Customizable with Mac OS X

If you have Mac OS X Tiger, Mighty Mouse can give you fingertip access to the special features you love. Simply use the system preference panel to configure Mighty Mouse in the way that makes you most powerful. Control the Scroll Ball's tracking and click functions, as well as the right, left and side click functions. And you even can set up different mouse profiles for every user account on your Mac.

Optical Tracking

Powered by a precision optical sensor, Mighty Mouse provides responsive and accurate cursor movement on almost any type of surface — no mouse pad required.

    Not exactly brilliant

    Written by DH from Reading

Looks like these have a 14 month life... On the plus side the trackball is great for positioning, on the negative side after a monRead moreth it became unresponsive - you need to then continually clean it after every 10 hours of use and it gets progressively worse. Very frustrating - and unlike a regular mouse it is a sealed unit which means you can't take the ball out and clean it out properly - why do Apple insist on this - they refused to repair my iPod under warranty and I am unable to do it myself without using a can opener to open it and destroy it in the process. Anyhow, since it bust I forced it apart and the trackball is sealed up inside the sealed unit. Designed in California by idiots it seems.

Fragile and poorly designed; a real disappointment.

    Written by LB from BIRMINGHAM

The good bits: the design is sleek and it matches well with my MacBook. It feels comfortable in my hand and sideways scrolling canRead more be handy.

The bad bits: the side buttons are only really practical if you are willing to squeeze and use them both as one button.

The scroll ball is a real weak point. For web browsing it's fine, but on many applications, especially in Windows and Linux, even more so in games, it is too sensitive and I have been unable to fix this. You touch it a tiny bit and it zooms or scrolls far too much. It can be really hard to get things precisely where you need.

It also suffers with the dirt issue. Originally mine responded well to the cleaning instructions. However, over time it has degraded and cleaning does not improve it. I now have to press quite hard to scroll up a page, often causing it to press the middle button (and thus do something else). It is now pretty much unusable. I shall be attempting to return it for this reason, having bought it only 9 months ago.

There is another fault, where it seems to stick when clicking, as if something has shifted out of place, and makes a horrible noise. This comes and goes. I don't know if this is just my mouse or caused by a design weakness similar to the scroll ball.

If I had paid only £10 for this mouse I would have been annoyed.

I would recommend this mouse only to people who a) use their computers less than an hour a day and b) do not need to do anything outside of fairly standard OS X applications and c) do not have to carry it in a laptop bag most days (it is clearly not robust enough).

    Apple: Fix the scrollball design.

    Written by JS from SANDOWN

    09-Feb-2009

Replaced once under warranty and now this one is completely dead. Lovely look and design as usual with Apple products. No other moRead moreuse compares. However, strikes me as odd that Apple are still yet to fix this vital design flaw, as flagged up by so much of the Apple community. Scrollball is crucial to my daily use therefore I have to rate so lowly.

READ THIS if scrollwheel not working

    Written by NT from Charlbury

    07-Jan-2008

OK, granted, there is a flaw in the design of this mouse, but I bet 90% of mice problems can be solved like this:

    1. unplug theRead more mouse from the keyboard
    2. turn it upside down
    3. roll the scrollwheel in all directions on a blank (clean) piece of paper, in all directions, for 60 seconds
    4. re-attach

bingo! works every time. this is a good mouse in both OS X and Windows, I have used it for gaming and is excellent for browsing large webpages or large documents, with its 360 degree scrollwheel. although at times i want to get away from the mouse/keyboard combo (it is 2008 now, after all), at least this Mighty Mouse lessens the pain somewhat.

    scroll wheel problems

Written by SM from NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

    27-Aug-2007

I like Apple products but I'm very unhappy with the scroll wheel problem on the so-called "Mighty" Mouse. I found that within a fRead moreew months of getting my new iMac I lost use of vertical scrolling on the mouse and had it replaced. A couple of months further on and the same problem has occurred with the replacement. The 360 degree scrolling capability is a nice idea, but it has been poorly implemented.

    Scroll ball clogs

    Written by SR from BRISTOL

    16-Oct-2007

Works fine for a couple of months, then the scroll ball clogs up. You then need to crack it open with a screwdriver (forcing open Read morenot unscrewing), unscrew the scroll ball assembly, clean the minute rollers, put it all back together and super glue the base back on.

Repeat this routine every 2 months (I've done it at least a dozen times). Helpful technical support people suggested buying a new one when I complained, and then put the phone down when I pointed out that this was rather an expensive option.
