Stunning is an understatement.

Made for the new Macbook family

Made for the new MacBook family.

The LED Cinema Display is the first display designed specifically for the MacBook. Three easy connections allow you to extend your desktop, charge your MacBook and access a world of USB peripherals.

Connect via Mini DisplayPort

Connect via Mini DisplayPort.

The LED Cinema Display attaches to your new MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air using the new industry-standard Mini DisplayPort connector. Other display connectors have you lining up pins or fumbling with screws. But the Mini DisplayPort connector is easy in, easy out. Now you can also attach your LED Cinema Display to Mac desktop computers that have a Mini DisplayPort: Mac Pro, Mac mini, and iMac.

IcExtend your desktop

Extend your desktop.

Connect the LED Cinema Display to your new computer, and it's like upgrading your screen to first class. The 24-inch LED-backlit widescreen display adds 1920 by 1200 pixels to your workspace, giving your work more room to impress. And its glossy finish makes graphics, photos, and video appear in rich colors and deep blacks.

The LED advantage.

The LED advantage.

LEDs are solid-state light sources that are an ideal complement to digital LCDs. They light up very quickly, which means you experience full screen brightness the moment you connect your LED Cinema Display to your system. And LEDs are completely mercury-free.

MagSafe connector.

MagSafe connector.

The LED Cinema Display is the perfect companion for your new MacBook, because it includes a convenient universal MagSafe connector that powers and charges your MacBook when you're back at your home, office, or dorm. You can leave your MacBook power adapter right in your bag, ready to hit the road.

Built-in conveniences.

Built-in conveniences.

With a built-in iSight camera, microphone, speaker system, and USB hub, the LED Cinema Display keeps your desktop clutter-free. Have video conferences with your MacBook closed. Listen to music without headphones. And leave your USB peripherals connected to the display for quick get-up-and-go productivity. You can also connect it to your Mini DisplayPort-enabled Mac Pro or Mac mini to instantly enjoy these convenient video and audio features.

Green Design.

Green design.

The LED Cinema Display, like the latest-generation iPod, iPhone, and Mac computers, features mercury-free LED backlight technology and arsenic-free glass. The display is also free of BFRs and PVCs in all internal cables and components. In addition, the glass and aluminum construction make the display highly recyclable, so its raw materials can be used in other types of products. It receives a Gold rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT).

This is probably one of the best displays I have owned!
Very easy to hook up to your MacBook (new line-up) without the need of fidRead moregeting around with extra cables...but please not that this is really being sold as a MacBook "accessory" i.e. as an external display for your new MB.
Don't bother buying this for any any other use!

    Good looking AND functional

Even unpacking the box is a pleasant experience! Apple have paid a lot of attention to making sure it arrives in pristine conditiRead moreon - there is protective film over the body of the screen to prevent scratches etc.

Set-up is easy, you really don't need to use the manual. The inclusion of a Magsafe connector to link up to your macbook is genius as it saves the need for another socket - with so many peripherals power sockets are at a premium for me! Although, the cable comes from the side of the Magsafe connector (rather than straight out as a usual Magsafe connector on the power pack) which means it causes me a problem running the cable to the back of my desk without a loop with my protective case installed on my Macbook - but that's a minor issue.

The 3 USB ports are handy, and are helpfully located on the back of the screen - some might say this is a problem but, if like me, you have several peripherals which are plugged in permanently, this keeps them out of sight.

The image provided by the screen is brilliant - you have to turn the brightness down just a touch from the factory setting as it's like looking at the sun otherwise (it is really that bright!)... the image is crystal clear and sharp. I don't know if one should expect dead pixels with LED's but there aren't any anyway.

Overall, although pricey, this screen is second-to-none. Looks wonderful and performs brilliantly. Get one!

    Excellent Performance, fantastic product!

After looking around at the various screens on the market I decided to try the Apple LED Display. There were many reasons for thisRead more, but the main one was the fact that the quality of image on this screen is absolute perfection. Colours are rich, blacks are very black, and the resolution is high enough for the work I was intending to use it for. I could have purchased a much cheaper display (at £635 the Apple Cinema Display is very expensive), however, other less expensive displays use CCFL technology for the lighting of the panel, and this is no way near as effective as using LED technology in the way that Apple have chosen to do with this display. Cold cathode fluorescent lamps achieve excellent results for their price, but I wanted a display that really delivered when it came to colour, and produced an even tone across the whole display.

The first thing you notice when you remove it from the box is the stunning industrial design. The guys at Apple have once again produced something which will not look out of place in any home or office. The display has a cable bunch attached with includes a Micro Displayport connector, USB 2.0 lead and the Magsafe connector. The Magsafe connector allows you to charge your Apple MacBook while using it with the display. This is a great idea as it removed the need for me to purchase an additional power block for use at home. I can now leave my Apple charger in my bag, ready to go. The USB cable is also handy as it allows you to use the display as a USB hub for up to three devices. The only downside of this is that as the USB sockets are located on the rear of the display they can be quite hard to locate without turning the display around and the cable bunch is pretty short.

When you plug in your display into the MacBook you have a choice of different modes to use. You can leave the MacBook lid open and have the displays running together, giving you a huge area to work within, or you can close the lid and the 24″ display becomes the primary display for using your MacBook. Either method provides excellent results, and the display is a joy to work with. Also included in the display is a built-in iSight camera, speakers and a microphone - all of which are powered via the same USB connection to your MacBook. This is an excellent feature, as it gives you the option to work with the lid down on your MacBook and still use all of the features of the MacBook. Obviously working in this way requires a keyboard and mouse (I have been using the bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse and these work perfectly with the lid closed. Performance under Windows via Bootcamp is also excellent and everything works just as it should.

Overall using the Apple 24″ LED Cinema Display is an excellent experience, the screen looks fantastic and has the performance to boot. An excellent display and well worth the extra money - £635 never sounded such a bargain. Perfect for all MacBook users.

    Superb product

    Written by FM from London

I own a new unibody 15' MacBook Pro and was looking for a monitor to allow myself to work more precisely with applications such asRead more Apperture or iMovie. I shopped around (HP made interesting ones as well with integrated mic and webcam for half the price) but in due fairness the LED cinema display was the best choice (although the priciest) for several reasons:
    - no cables and wires dangling everywhere
    - plug and play
    - for the price to have a 24' LED (and not LCD!) is a bargain (and yes I am going to have to eat pasta for the whole of March after spending that much in one go!).

I had a scary moment when once plugged I found the definition a bit grainy and gross but when using it with the MacBook monitor off (allowing you to be able still to use the keyboard) the resolution is just amazing, especially comes to pictures. The glossiness of the display has not been a problem as far as I am concerned, and given the room where it sits.

It is important to note that this display is usable only with the new unibody MacBook and MacBook Pro family as it needs to minidisplay port to function. However, it seems that Apple has allowed 3rd-party manufacturers to produce adaptors so people with the older generation shoud be able to use it anytime soon.

The reason why I give it 4 instead of 5 stars, is because it is not a very nice move from Apple to forget people who are loyal to the brand and could feel left out, especially if they bought a less recent MacBook brand new from them just before the unibody family was released. On top of that this display is not usable with game consoles as there is no hdmi or any other kind of ports. But comes to the product as such it is remarkable, and a nice piece of design too).

    My photos are alive

I bought this for home use, but it will also be of great use as a work station. Previously if you moved your powerbook, all cablesRead more had to be unplugged. Now its a doddle leaving keyboard etc plugged in, giving greater freedom than with a 24" imac. Also my photos have suddenly come to life, making me doubt the recent purchase of a new camera. Some photographer friends don't like the glossy screen, but i think its richer and more vibrant than LCD. Not only photos but dvds look fantastic, so the bedroom has taken over from the living room as a makeshift cinema. Next on my wish list is a 40" backlit LED perhaps for downstairs. At the end of the day its like no other monitor I have seen, putting LCD's into the shade, IT'S BRILLIANT!

This is a superb monitor (as long as you like the glossy finish). However...

This monitor only comes with a mini-DisplayPort adaRead morepter. Unless you have a brand new Mac laptop or desktop, you will not be able to connect the monitor.

Optimists hoping to be able to find a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter of the right gender (opposite to those sold in the Apple Store) will be doomed to a long search.
