Office 2008 for Mac - Home & Student
Disaster
Written by JP from Poole

I don't know what Microsoft were thinking releasing this product, given the number of bugs and flaws it has.
It doesn't work properly with Mac OS X's features 'Exposé' and 'Spaces'. It crashes and quits unexpectedly more frequently than other applications. It is slow to start up, even on a high-end MacBook Pro. Windows don't work properly– for example saving a document sometimes causes the active window to disappear behind other windows.
Despite a few extra features and theoretical improvements over previous versions of Office, this product falls well below the standard I would expect considering the price.(39 of 50 people found this review useful)

Crashes, crashes and oh, just crashed again
Written by JR from London

Oh dear, oh dear. The only applications that ever crash on my macbook pro are Microsoft applications. What a surprise.
Have used this for about 3 months now. It's clunky, cumbersome, slow and unstable. Entourage in particular is very unstable. Powerpoint is OK, but Keynote is so much slicker. Word crashes more often than is acceptable and is very slow, especially with long documents and big tables. There have been three 'critical updates' already and none have improved the stability or speed.
I recommend avoiding this package, and all Microsoft packages for the Mac, if you can get away with it.(61 of 83 people found this review useful)

hanging on to nurse's apron

yes it works but if you're trying to write a proposal or include graphics and text it's incredibly laborious and restrictive...I was using it for years after Clarisworks/Appleworks fell into the annals of history because everybody else uses Word and excel. That's the only reason anybody uses it...not because it's any good or they have considered the options...they've never used anything else and are frightened of anything else.
But one day using "Pages" and "Numbers" and you will wonder why you suffered so many years. Suddenly you are back in the land of intuitive simple to use Apple designed loveliness.
Try moving a photo around in word and the do it in Pages and ask yourself...why have the people at Microsoft not bothered to make it that easy with their product?(46 of 68 people found this review useful)

Once again using a Mac does not stop me being in contact with my Office as Office:Mac fills the gaps so now I can work with Office 2007 files from PC to Office Mac '08.
Fantastic that the office suite has been updated.
Please note on previous reviews that yes there has been some issues with this update but this has now been fixed through a free patch which automatically can be downloaded via the software update which is included with the installation disc.

Powerpoint Continuously Crashes When opening older Powerpoint Files
Written by JW from Dublin
03-May-2008
Powerpoint 2008 Continuously crashes when working on older powerpoint files that I'm updating for New Lectures that I am giving. It is virtually unusable on my MacBook and I have to use an older version on another Mac. This occurred after the update so I am using the most up to date version of the Office Software. A colleague of mine at work has had the same experience and he has uninstalled Office 2008 and reinstalled 2004 - I will probably have to do likewise. JBW

Pretty awful

I'm pretty much ready to uninstall Office 2008. I really liked Office 2004 on my G5 and had been looking forward to installing this UB on my MBP. However it is incredibly slow (both to launch and in use) and buggy, and Excel has caused my machine to totally lock up on several occasions.
One of the main reasons I use Office is to produce documents for PC-based customers, but I have since found documents look significantly different under Office 2003 on a PC ( (at least for documents using textboxes). In fact, I've found documents exported from iWork's Pages have a more consistent cross-platform appearence!
Having used Word since version 3 (in 1987) I'm finding Pages a little unfamiliar and awkward. However, given the state of Office 2008 it's a better (and cheaper) option

Contradict all the negative reviews
Written by CG from COLCHESTER

I have used word, excel and powerpoint, there are no glitches and the layout\interface are easy to use. Maybe Im just lucky but I cant find anything to mark this product down over! The only slight aggravation is feeling you have to have it just because it is the standard, when iwork is generally considered to be a superior product and is nearly half the price!
If (like me) your used to windows and are worried about how it will hold up next to the windows version, I think its just as good if not better, and i dont think there are any cross computability issues!(44 of 74 people found this review useful)

No stars! (but was forced to click 1 star)

Been using this for a short while, and Excel has started to freeze my MacBook Pro. Only way to recover is by powering down, when I restart Excel it creates an auto-recovery file, I chose not to save it - froze again! Opened more than 2 workbooks at the same time - froze again! Usual pile of manure one can expect from Microsoft. Save yourself some money, and get iWork for half the price!
