The wireless signal is strong and consistent - I haven't had dropped connection yet. The first backup (approximately 96GB) took around 9 hrs to complete over a wireless connection - not bad at all, in my opinion. Cons - the hard drive is not user serviceable/replaceable (without opening the box and voiding the warranty, that is). I've also been having problems trying to access the shared drive from my windows machines, however I suspect this is more of a windows vista issue, and since I didn't buy the TC for this specific purpose, it doesn't really bother me. Lastly, the TC only has 3 ethernet ports - I really could use 4 myself, and since nearly every other wireless router on the market has 4, I wonder why Apple decided to skimp on this.
Overall though, I'm very happy with the product.(3 of 3 people found this review useful)

I went against the bad reviews.

I'm a new Mac user - I ordered my 500GB Time Capsule at the same time a my MacBook.
I've previously been a PC guy for years, but …Read moreafter a few years away from computers completely I binned all my old junk and went for a whole new system.
Despite the fact that half the reviews here were negative, I plumped for the purchase. After all, I figures that most of this sort of kit made in these volumes will ship faulty. I guess I just crossed my fingers and hoped for a working unit!
I did as advised in other reviews and followed the instructions (which is usually the last thing I'd do). The router connected and picked up my internet and settings immediately. The set up of the time capsule, drive and network took about 5 minutes and was completely intuitive, like most Apple systems (except the shocking iTunes).
My TC runs silently (is a little warm, but it's on a glass shelf so it keeps it cool), the signal's superb and I've not experienced one single issue with it yet.
If you're going down the wireless Mac and backup route, the Time Capsule is the way to go. Otherwise stick to PC and free routers.

Time Capsule - 500 GB
Disappointed

For starters, I have to say that I love all that is Apple. I own an iMac, Macbook, iphone, ipod etc.
I own the Time Capsule fo…Read morer over a year now and have had problems since. First the wireless would not work for the life of me (I'm quite knowledgable around computers) until I had to wire it to my iMac. Then it would refuse to backup for no reason whatsoever. I had it replaced.
Now the backup system does not work again. I've had to reset it to factory settings many times - probably around 6 or 7 since first purchased (which is extremely frustrating since I put some original files on it).
It's unlikely that I have a lemon, given that it was replaced. I think that the firmware can't handle a serious computer user (as opposed to someone who just checks e-mail and does wordprocessing).
I'm not trying to dissaude you from buying it. As all apple devices, it is beautiful. But while Apple products are reknown for beauty and function, this one lacks the function.
