Time Machine icon

Automatic backup with Time Machine.

Time Capsule works automatically with Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution. There are no cables, and you can back up all the computers in your home to a central _aw_location.

Storage icon

Server-grade storage.

The massive 500GB or 1TB server-grade hard drive2 gives you all the capacity and safety you need for backing up all your Mac computers.

Networking icon

Easy wireless networking.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to Time Capsule, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is included for both Mac OS X and Windows. Within minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos, and more — without wires.3

Dual Band icon

Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi. NEW

For maximum range and compatibility, Time Capsule works simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. And Time Capsule uses the latest 802.11n wireless technology so you can enjoy up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.4

Guest Networking icon

Guest networking. NEW

Now you can set up a separate Wi-Fi network with a separate password for your visitors. Simply enable the new guest networking feature, and your guests can use the Internet but can’t access other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers, and attached hard drives.

Drive Sharing icon

Wireless drive sharing.

Time Capsule also works great as a wireless hard drive, whether you have a Mac or a PC. It sets up in a snap, giving you a networked hard drive you can use for storing and sharing all kinds of files. If you're a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.5

Printer icon

Print without wires.

Print documents, photos, and more from any room in your home or office to a central printer connected to Time Capsule via USB. (See system requirements.)

Security icon

Strong security and access controls.

Protect yourself with the built-in firewall and industry-standard encryption technologies including WPA/WPA2 and 128-bit WEP.

AppleTV, iPhone, iPod touch icon

  1. (1) Time Capsule is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g.
  2. (2) 1GB = 1 billion bytes; 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual formatted capacity less.
  3. (3) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access; fees may apply. Some ISPs are not currently compatible with Time Capsule.
  4. (4) Performance is based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes Time Capsule-based network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
  5. (5) MobileMe is available to persons age 13 and older. Annual subscription fee and Internet access required. Terms of service apply.

Beware of using Time Capsule with a PPPoE service

    Written by CS from Ottawa

Do not buy this product if you connect to the net with a PPPoE service. Wait at least until a firmware update beyond 7.4.1 is avaRead moreilable. My little white doorstop (read: Time Capsule) is useless until Apple fixes an issue that causes the device to drop the internet connection on a regular basis. Multiple reboots, reconfigurations and calls to Apple's help, my ISP's help and visits by a third party IT professional have not rectified the situation. I have replaced the device (courtesy of Apple) and replaced my modem (own expense) without success. I am a professional designer who is generally a strong Apple advocate that is now one week behind schedule as a result of this device.

Everyone Must Have a Time Capsule

Written by EM from New York

This is one of the best concepts MAC has come out with. Time machine is automatic and runs seamlessly to create backups of your enRead moretire MAC. Deleted something today that you shouldn't have...... just click on time machine and look at your back up from 2 hours ago and voila.....no more deleted file. We all know MACs are the Rolls Royce of computers but even a Rolls Royce sometimes breaks down. If you have a time capsule no need to worry about lost data. Just get your MAC repaired, bring it home and do a total system restore and it will be as if nothing happened! Oh and one last thing, 500 GB is more than enough for most people. Once it is full, it automatically erases the oldest back up just keeps going on forever......kinda like the energizer bunny!

    Disappointed

    Written by HH from CALGARY

For starters, I have to say that I love all that is Apple. I own an iMac, Macbook, iphone, ipod etc.

I own the Time Capsule foRead morer over a year now and have had problems since. First the wireless would not work for the life of me (I'm quite knowledgable around computers) until I had to wire it to my iMac. Then it would refuse to backup for no reason whatsoever. I had it replaced.

Now the backup system does not work again. I've had to reset it to factory settings many times - probably around 6 or 7 since first purchased (which is extremely frustrating since I put some original files on it).

It's unlikely that I have a lemon, given that it was replaced. I think that the firmware can't handle a serious computer user (as opposed to someone who just checks e-mail and does wordprocessing).

I'm not trying to dissaude you from buying it. As all apple devices, it is beautiful. But while Apple products are reknown for beauty and function, this one lacks the function.

    Easy to use

This product is a great 2 in one product that is easy to set up and secure... unlike other networking devices I have used in the pRead moreast. Trust me, spend the extra $ to get the back up drive... it's worth it... as opposed to purchasing separate. Air Port Extreme + a hard drive... easy decision... runs on its own in the background, you won't even notice it.

I love this thing! It was so easy to set up and the automatic backups work flawlessly. I don't even notice when it backs up. The dRead moreual-band WiFi signal is amazing, so now all the wireless devices in my house run at optimal speeds! Buy it! Trust me. You won't regret it!
