Not a success story. AutoCAD runs sluggish. No Unity.

My only desire to run Windows on my Mac is to avoid having to work on a PC/Laptop with AutoCAD (LT 2009). I opted for Fusion so th…Read moreat I could be in my OS X environment as opposed to Boot Camp. I had high hopes for this and although the Windows Vista install was seamless and ran quite well in Fusion, AutoCAD unfortunately did not. It seemed to function fine but action in it was lethargic at best when compared to it running in it's 'real' os/hw environment. The main limitation was speed. Using the mouse and tools was sluggish. The mouse (cross-hair) moved slow and interrupted in the drawing window, although fine outside this when over the tools, window,..etc. The Menu, Ribbon pop-ups,... were also slow to respond. Some tools were also slow in action. This was not practical for work. Maybe for personal use with no time restraints. Full screen worked fine, but Unity did not. Certain parts of the drawing area would flash (Grid,...etc). I tried reinstalling a few times with no change. Fusion had 40 GB of space and I tried allotting 1.5 to 2 GB of memory. It didn't help expect for Windows Vista ran smoother. Otherwise, I liked the Fusion UI and how it was set up. Intuitive and simple to use. I would give it 4 stars had it worked.

Next up: Parallels. I tried Boot Camp too but it failed to load Windows Vista. Go figure. I think there are a lot of people out there with similar experiences and no solution. The advertising of running Windows on your Mac is misleading and not all that it's hyped to be. There are a lot of incompatibility issues.(7 of 7 people found this review useful)

I didn't initially buy VM because there were so few reviews. After one month of trying everything to get Parallels to work properly, I scrapped it, and bought VM Fusion 2.0. Within two minutes of installation I knew I made the right choice. Everything works perfectly, and FAST. Don't make the mistake I made, buy this first, at $79.99 it is a steal!

This is a very impressive bit of software.
I actually received version 1.1.2 along with the order of a newly purchased Mac Mini…Read more. Upon installing I was then directed to a free upgrade to v2.0. Downloaded and installed it, and then was treated to the unexpected delight of being able to import an existing W2K virtual machine from Virtual PC 7 off of the G5 tower I am banishing to the basement for the crime of excessive fan noise.
Not only does the imported W2K system work flawlessly, but it also runs much faster than it did before because VMWare allows one to allocate 1GB memory to the virtual machine (vs only 512M allowed by VPC7). From start to finish the whole process took less than an hour, and I was spared the irritation of a miserable afternoon building and configuring a new Windows installation. Hats-off to the engineers at VMWare for a job well done!(230 of 254 people found this review useful)

It works fabulously, and the unity feature is excellent. Also, there is a way how to make it so the desktop on Windows or whatever other OIS you use matches the one on your Mac.
I highly recommend it.(231 of 259 people found this review useful)
