My beautiful new drive arrived yesterday. It is indeed beautiful, slim, makes my desk look great! Heads-up though, the dock and dr…Read moreive only work with Firewire 800 or USB. If you have Firewire 400 only on your Mac, you will need to use the USB for the drive or get an adapter to use the dock or drive. I should have read the fine print! I'm using the USB direct to the drive and the backup is slower than our economic recovery...27GB in 24 hours! I got one of these for a family member with Firewire 800 and she loves it. I assume it also makes the backup much faster. So, make sure you have 800 ports.
Looks great and travels great.(21 of 23 people found this review useful)

Great Product So Far

I bought one of these last evening at a local Apple store, took it home, and cloned my hard drive onto it. No problems at all. I u…Read moresed a Firewire 800 connection.
This drive comes with truly industrial strength cables. I've never seen cables like this before--the plugs are partially made of metal! It's a nice touch that they are white too so that they match all the Apple cables.
A couple of days earlier I had purchased a competitor's drive but it stopped working after about 5 minutes of use. I tried various things and it worked for a while but then failed again so I returned it. The Seagate drive seems to be of much better quality and has caused me no problems at all.
The drive does have an area of small lights in a pattern that slowly pulsate (get brighter then darker) when the drive is turning. But, the lights are not terribly bright and I didn't find them distracting or annoying at all.(46 of 49 people found this review useful)
