Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3
Good game brought down by bugs and system requirements

Entertaining game. Could be a great game with five stars with some fixes. Game is a little buggy with some graphics issues. Sys…Read moretem requirements are quite high. I have a 3.06GHZ iMac with 4GB ram and the highest video card from Apple and the Game runs painfully slow on the settings set on high. Runs ok at lower settings but there are some graphic problems occasionally. It is really shame as the graphics are stunning at the high settings on the iMac monitor but the speed is unplayable. If you are cc fan the game is great if you can live with lower detail settings.

Great Game

I've been playing the C&C series from the very beginning on PC. A recent convert to the world of Apple, i was pleased to see EA re…Read moreleased this game for us Mac owners. As with all C&C games - this one is awesome. I would have rated this 5 stars were it not for some minor problems - I have a 24" iMac (brand new - Mar 09) and i have to turn down the graphics settings for this to run smooth. That's a load of *****. This game should run like a chap with everything on high, but it will not - a problem i attribute to EA and most likely a windows based software approach to the game. The occasional hang up and herky-jerky scrolling with everything on high remind me of why I left PC in the first place.
All that being said, tone down the graphics options - the game still looks great and plays even better. Go ahead and buy this game now - in the end you won't be disappointed.(16 of 17 people found this review useful)

Mac vs. Windows (Boot Camp)
Written by DP from Northampton

In november, my brother and I bought Red Alert 3 for our laptops. His is an HP (Can run on Medium without problems) and of course …Read moremine is a Mac (Early 2008 macbook with GMA X3100). I later found out that it wasn't mac compatible so I resorted to Boot Camp. A few days ago I found out there was a mac version that just came out so I got it for two reasons: 1. So I could vs. my brother, 2. So I didn't have to boot into Windows. Here's my comparison of Boot Camp and Mac.
(Graphics Card: GMA X3100)
Boot Camp
- Only run on Very Low.
- Sometimes a blue screen of death appears when I start a game.
- Built in Mic doesn't work.
Mac
- Can run on Low with one choice on Medium (this means it runs a little better with Mac).
- Another CD Key (A Benefit for me!)
- No Crashes.
Mac Glitches (1.09)
- Cursor images not animated.
- The things engineers can capture and ore mines on the radar are blurry.
- You can see land that is more elevated than your units.
- Some VFX appear more than once in grids (Such as Kivoc Bombing/Construction)
Other than the comparison, this game is really good. If you didn't get this game for Windows then you would want to add this wonderful RTS game to your cart to play on your brand new Nvidia Mac with powerful Graphics.
PS. I do think that this game should have an even lower graphics setting to play for macs older than 1 year.(67 of 77 people found this review useful)

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3
GREAT!
Written by AM from Hopewell

I have always been a fan of C&C from the beginning (original game) to present day. I have about a year old Mac and this game runs…Read more great. I hope they keep coming out with the C&C franchise on Mac and keep it updated and running great. They need to match pace with releasing Mac versions of games to when PC versions make it on the shelves. Again, if you enjoy strategy this game sticks to the classic gameplay style ... only with MUCH better graphics and gameplay. The plus side to this version is that they made the AI much more intelligent than in previous C&C's in skirmish mode which can make the game that much more challenging. Again if you love strategy and the classic C&C gameplay then buy this game. Reminder ... I bought my MacBook Pro (Best settings and hardware) right before they updated to the new dual video graphics cards sets so it runs great on Macs that were out right before the update to dual graphics cards.
