I am a newbie when it comes to making music. now i have people dancing at parties and people asking me to dj for there parties. it took me four and a half months to become a small timer. but i know i can utilize this small tool to make it as big as the world for me.

I had the privilage of leraning about this awesome "Better Than Protools!" software at Berklee Music College, studying music production. This program is strait up professional with high it's quality sounds from native instruments inside or brought in through the use of an interface, runs circles around protools any day, anytime!

    Doesn't work with usb mic

It's really cool software, but it doesn't have the functionality of even garage band. In garage band, you can just plug in a usb mic and it automatically works. In Logic Express 8, you have to create an "aggregate device" which seems to work for most people, but not me. When my usb mic is plugged in, I can't get any audio out. Man, I'm bummed. I mean, that's $200, and I have to use garage band still. You can't return software, and nobody can help me on the discussion boards. I'm very frustrated. I'm gonna go by a different mic tonight that plugs into the 1/8" point to see if that works. But how lame is this, that Express doesn't automatically handle usb mics?

    It's Logic

More advance than Garage Band, but less complex than ProTools. It's a user friendly's dream up true. Perfect for layering and editing your instrumental tracks. Since many of us aren't sound engineers, and hate cuddling with a ProTools manual, I give this program a 5/5.

    To good to be true

If you look at the products features, you would think that this is a 600$ programe. But the price is only 199$. I compared this product to logic (I have both) and although logic contains much more features, the core of the product can be used to do some professionnal music editing and creation which makes this programe look like if it were from 2012 (Meaning better than the competition), especially for the price. Keep it up Apple!!!

Great steup from Garage Band even for an amateur musician

I am more a computer person than a musician. I bought the product and also bought Apogee Duet. Installation was extremely easy (the Mac way :) ) and I was ready with both products in about 10 minutes, but please do not rush.

I then tried a few things I learned in GB - it is very consistent. I have been going through the manuals which is absolutely necessary - you avoid asking silly questions in the discussions boards and the manuals did answer any questions I have had so far.

It is the type of software you ultimately expect from Apple: It requires no special computer skills, it is intuitive and consistent. I have several musical programs but this one is way, way ahead of all o them.

    Does everything, but quirky

This package probably does everything in music that you'll want it to do. It's crammed with instruments, effects, editors, and supports plug-ins for even more. There's side-by-side GUI and opcode MIDI editing, which is a real time saver. Once you get past the extremely steep learning curve, it's quick to operate. With so many features packed in, the tiny controls must be maneuvered very carefully. A big screen and a high quality mouse are just as important as good speakers.

I'm using Logic with Dimension Pro to improve the limited library of samples in the "Express" version of Logic. Logic keeps generators and filters separate so 3rd party software integrates well.

The one sorely missing feature is the ability to open more than one project at once. Moving channel configurations and tracks between projects is painfully slow and clumsy. You'll hit this limitation when trying to restore bits of a project that haven't evolved as well as you hoped.

Be prepared to fight with bugs. MIDI files never import correctly. Strange temporary glitches are a nearly constant distraction during use.

    Awesomeness!

As a music technology student, I've been working with logic express 7 for two years, and always wanted it at home. Now I've got LE 8 and it's even better! No hassle to install and it works like a (very good) dream. The only issue I have found with it is that certain operations (freezing, bouncing) only use one CPU core on my dual core machine. But I highly recommend it to anyone form entry level to quite advanced as a cost-effective method of making music at home. Can I give it 6/5?

Perfect! Everything just flows; especially if you have used garage band or are a mac user in general. If your tired of the headache of pro tools or other software, and you get the ins and outs of a DAW system, this is your answer! Hundreds of Pristine quality studio instruments and loops come stock. As if that wasn't enough there are preloaded channel strip settings and plug ins for days. Logic Express 8 is a 10 in my book!

Pro Tools, Move out of the WAY!!!!! Here Coms Logic

I have used Pro Tools for 4 or 5 years now, and have loved it, until the version I had (pro tools 7.3) wouldn't work on OS 10.5. I bought logic and have only used it for a day or two now, but it is the most amazing music mixing and recording software I have used. Since I have all the Jam Packs for Garage Band, I was able to use them immediately and save myself a lot of trouble having to import them in individually through pro tools. Buy this now, for $200 you can't go wrong!!!!
