    alright...

Written by NS from Cooper City

to sum it up, microsoft office on the mac is okay... that is, it does the job. apart from that though, it takes a bit of getting uRead moresed to and is unfortunately not laid out AT ALL like its windows counterpart. The 2007 Windows version office is so much more intuitive and familiar, that it makes for a frustrating transition for someone trying to migrate from Windows office to Mac office and is even more frustrating when one is trying to work using both of them. i hope in the next version of mac office, they just decide to make a ported over version of the windows version. that would save everyone a lot of headaches. but overall, if you need office on your mac, it works. i mean all of the compatibility is there, you just need to learn all of the new layouts and menus that are on the mac version if you're used to only using the windows version. oh, and if you have a intel mac with a harddrive partition (windows on one side, mac on the other) than i'd just install Office for Windows onto the Windows side of your machine and use that rather than getting this version. but if you dont wanna do that, than be prepared to learn all of the new weird layouts and orientations of office for mac 2008.

    Office 2008 for Mac

I returned this product today. The excel does not have nearly the features that the PC version has so I am not able to complete aRead morell my assignments using this version. The tutorials and help are not as easy as the PC version. The program is very different than the PC versions which makes it difficult to use it for learning purposes. Access is not available at all for the Mac Office version. I did however, like the word portion of the package.

    Should be called Office 1995

I bought this product and when I use it I feel like I've been transported back to 1995. Compared to the Windows version, this proRead moreduct is terrible! I'm so disappointed - it's clunky, awkward, archaic...and a waste. You've been warned.

    No VBA, great interface

    Written by GL from Sacramento

    Jan 16, 2008

There's some pronounced pluses, but a big minus for power users like me.

Plus #1 is that it's Universal. As someone who runs aRead more MacBook pro, I found that to be a huge plus. The speed improvement is noticeable.
Plus #2 is the interface. It's REALLY smooth, intuitive, and well-done.
Plus #3 is PowerPoint. The makeover is just right.

The big minus is no VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). If you use VBA to automate processes in Office, it's gone from 2008. Not coming back.

But if you don't need VBA, and have never used it, it's well worth it.

Excel 2008 not for power users

Written by RJ from Sierra Madre

    Jan 19, 2008

The elimination of VBA from Excel 2008 means that users who depend on features like Solver, histograms, extended statistical analyRead moreses (such as ANOVA), and custom VBA enhancements are left out in the cold. We are left with two options: (1)stay with Excel 2004 or (2)buy the Windows version (Excel 2007). The first option penalizes Intel-based Mac users with reduced performance. I've reluctantly gone with the second option - which requires Vista or XP and Parallels (or similar program). The other problem with this approach is the new "Ribbon" interface to the Office products. Expect to lose a couple of weeks of productivity as your learn how to locate your favorite functions.
