  2. (2) 1GB = 1 billion bytes; 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual formatted capacity less.
  3. (3) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access; fees may apply. Some ISPs are not currently compatible with Time Capsule.
  4. (4) Performance is based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes Time Capsule-based network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
  5. (5) MobileMe is available to persons age 13 and older. Annual subscription fee and Internet access required. Terms of service apply.

    MAC Address issues and overpriced

    Written by RP from HALIFAX

I have used Time Capsule for a year now. The set up can be buggy, but overall the system works as stated. However it is crazy thatRead more if you buy a new computer or get the logic board replaced in your computer you CANNOT resume your back ups where you left off. You can do an initial restore from the Time Capsule, but then your old back ups are useless as you have to start a new sparse bundle of back ups (IF YOU HAVE THE ROOM). I believe that this is due to the Time Capsule using the MAC address to identify back ups. It is just TOO expensive for what it does and at this price there should be some way of resuming backups when you get a new computer.

Works well but I had some major issues setting it up. Ended up spending 45 minutes at the Mac bar. Very buggy at first but if itRead more works, will be very convenient! In retrospect, given the time I've spent, I'd purchase an old fashioned hard drive. Less cost, less hassle, faster download times and more reliable.

Amber Light STILL FLASHING! Hate it; can't make it work and don't know why!

So I bought this with the idea that I would add it to my existing AirPort Exteme Wireless Network so that I could set wireless bacRead morek ups from both my networked Leopard running G5 and iBook. I desperately need to back up...

I have spent over four hours -- including a visit to the Apple Store -- trying various things (software updates for everything, firmware updates, looking at the most recent manuals online, using it as my wireless base station (per the Apple Store), blah, blah, blah -- and still never see it on my Airport Utility Screen. (I saw it once, briefly, for about 30 seconds.)

So either the product is defective, or there is some missing bit of info about h/w & s/w requirements.

I am very disappointed, as there is little to no info about what could be wrong on the Apple website either. I know that we aren't supposed to talk about support here, but duh, support for the product IS part of what we are hoping for when we BUY a tech product.

    Disappointed

For starters, I have to say that I love all that is Apple. I own an iMac, Macbook, iphone, ipod etc.

I own the Time Capsule foRead morer over a year now and have had problems since. First the wireless would not work for the life of me (I'm quite knowledgable around computers) until I had to wire it to my iMac. Then it would refuse to backup for no reason whatsoever. I had it replaced.

Now the backup system does not work again. I've had to reset it to factory settings many times - probably around 6 or 7 since first purchased (which is extremely frustrating since I put some original files on it).

It's unlikely that I have a lemon, given that it was replaced. I think that the firmware can't handle a serious computer user (as opposed to someone who just checks e-mail and does wordprocessing).

I'm not trying to dissaude you from buying it. As all apple devices, it is beautiful. But while Apple products are reknown for beauty and function, this one lacks the function.

This product is a great 2 in one product that is easy to set up and secure... unlike other networking devices I have used in the pRead moreast. Trust me, spend the extra $ to get the back up drive... it's worth it... as opposed to purchasing separate. Air Port Extreme + a hard drive... easy decision... runs on its own in the background, you won't even notice it.

I love this thing! It was so easy to set up and the automatic backups work flawlessly. I don't even notice when it backs up. The dRead moreual-band WiFi signal is amazing, so now all the wireless devices in my house run at optimal speeds! Buy it! Trust me. You won't regret it!
