Overview

The compact Studiophile AV 40 powered reference monitors deliver the same proven M-Audio technology favored by top producers, recording engineers, and musicians around the world. The combination of 4-inch polypropylene-coated drivers and 3/4-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters provides punchy lows, crisp highs, and a balanced, uncolored response. Great Speakers

    Written by WE from Rockport

Just got these M-Audio AV 40 Speakers and am very pleased with the overall sound and quality of the pair. Found the bass a little Read moreheavy - easy to correct in I-Tunes EQ. Tried both KRK Rokit 5's and Bose Companion II's ( more $, and less $, respectively) and the M- Audio's blow both away, they hit the sweet spot. I use the speakers with a M-Audio Axiom keyboard for music composition, and also to listen to rock on I-Tunes. These speakers produce great depth, richness and volume at a realistic price. The highs are clear while the mid range needs a little boost (EQ again). (Do not forget to install the rubber acoustic bottom pads.) Try these you will be sooo happy.

    Big Sound!

I bought these speakers based on the reviews and how Apple has a special return policy for speakers. This way I could test them oRead moreut and see if they live up to the reviews. The truth is THEY DO! I do amateur music production. I personally think these speakers get really close to audiophile quality for a great price. The sound is simply clean and big. They get loud without distortion. Of course these are monitor speakers and you wouldn't use it for a concert or club. A small house "gathering" might do well with these. Music and movies sound clear and warm, not overly digitized/tinny as most speakers in this range do. If you like your bass really rumbly and boomy, these are not for you. If you like clean balanced sound from all ranges, I really suggest these speakers. I just love the simple pro studio look of them too!

Best speakers for my Mac ever!

Written by JJ from Santa Monica

I have the old Harmon Kardon Sound Sticks with subwoofer but after several years they died on me. Replaced them with the M-Audio ARead moreV 40 and these speakers are s-o-o much better! Rich nuanced sound that fills my studio. Plenty of bass even without the separate subwoofer. I can really rock out.

Front of left speaker has aux input and comes packaged with a stereo 1/8th to 1/8th cord so friends dropping by can plug their iPods directly into these speakers and let me hear their new discoveries.

Absolutely love them! And only $150!

    high fidelity

    Written by JM from Antrim

I've used these speakers for about a month now and I am very happy with them. I spent a lot of time looking for the best speakersRead more at an affordable price and ended up with these.

The sound of these are amazing... you can hear every thing the way it was meant to be heard (studio monitors) with no unwanted effects put in the sound to tarnish the fidelity of whatever you're listening to.

For those of you who are worried about not having a subwoofer, not to worry - if the song was meant to have the bass be heard, you will definetly hear it... and feel it too! These get impressively loud and sound very full and heavy.

The auxiliary input in the left speaker is a great featue and handy for portable devices like laptops and mp3 players. Although there isn't a digital input, there are RCA and TRS analog inputs. Then again, the common listener has no need for digital inputs (that's for the audiophiles).

So if you're looking for high fidelity speakers with the most bang for your buck, then you've found the right place.
