Great Product! MUCH BETTER than PC Programs

    Written by AM from Albion

I'm new to the world of Macintosh. I've been raised on Windows all of my life, and all I have to say is that iLife '09 on my MacboRead moreok Pro is a great product. I mainly use iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09. Editing is a snap with both. If you want a higher grade program for video editing, you should get Final Cut for that and Aperture for photo editing, as the iLife suite does have it's limitations. I must say that since I've been using iMovie '09 I have had nothing but success on YouTube. I'm a Let's Player, which is where you play a featured video game with a voice commentary over it. I'm also a Media Major, and iLife covers all sides of the spectrum when it comes to editing/mixing. People actually thought I was using Sony Vegas Studio, but when I revealed to them that I used a Mac they FLIPPED! To all of you editing hopefuls out there, get a Mac, it's the most prized computer in the industry, and I see why now.

    Great except for iMovie 9

    Written by AW from Peoria

ILife is more than worth the price, but download iMovie HD 6 instead of iMovie 9-- it is far better. iMovie 9 has some nice featRead moreures and seems to be a little bit more stable than iMovie HD 6, but the drawbacks completely outweigh any of the positives. iMovie 9 doesn't allow near as much creativity as iMovie 6 -- it is supposed to be easier to use, but it doesn't seem that way to me. I LOVE Apple -- but they also screwed over several companies that made incredible plugins that added tremendous and amazing effects to iMovie -- try and find a 3rd party plugin for iMovie 9 -- good luck in your search.

I have learned to use Final Cut Express -- FCE is a more professional program - allowing for subtle color changes, overlapping clips etc and once you get the idea behind it - you can use it fairly easily. I bought a green screen and FCE was awesome for that -- however, for most things I still use iMovie HD - it's very sad that Apple will not update the old iMovie format -- I actually sold people on Macs based on iMovie projects I made -- even people who did video editing on PC. iMovie 9 is nice, but kind of boring, limited and not as intuitive as iMovie 6 -- oh well.

    Worth the upgrade

    Written by MP from Naperville

    Feb 4, 2009

I'll admit that when I first read about iLife '09, I couldn't see the value in the upgrade. Now after spending some time with it, Read moreI am able to say that this is REALLY worth the price.

iPhoto is simply amazing and better than ever. Faces and Places really add that "umpf" factor to the photo library. I've got over 1300 pictures, and Faces is so helpful and fun. Places is so unique as well. It's fun to see all the geotagged locations that I have been to in the world. Add that to the ability to instantly upload to Facebook and Flickr and this program is worth it alone.

iMovie? Two words ...green screen. It's a riot and so much fun. iMovie is so, so much better than iMovie '08. So much of an improvement that it's hard to not use or enjoy iMovie. This will bring out the Spielberg (or Michael Bay) in us all. Yes, the video stabilization actually works well!

GarageBand is simply key for any musician out there. The new lessons are fantastic for both beginners and experts. The artist lessons are alright...nothing to be amazed over. I'm not going to pay $5 for Patrick Stump to teach me Fall Out Boy, but artist lessons are still great for some people. I hope that more free lessons are made available to more than just guitar and piano. The new amps and stomp boxes for guitars (and bass!!) are just awesome. Its literally like having your rig digitally emulated, so recording is a lot more fun and easy.

Those upgrades right there make this a must have for any iLife and Mac user. Is it worth the $79? Very much so.

    Trumps iLife 08 Ten Fold!

    Written by PH from Tustin

    Feb 6, 2009

I got iLife 09 mainly because of the features in iMovie, or to be honest the lack of features in iMovie 08. But I was pleasantly sRead moreurprised to see the great new UI on iWeb, the new features in iPhoto, and of course the changes made to iMovie, finally letting me go away from iMovie HD to a newer program. Thank you for the fix Apple!

The highlights from my vantage point so far... I love the site-specific publishing option in iWeb!! I have numerous sites and pageRead mores and previously had to switch users or computers to manage them all. I had opted to stick with iMovie HD vs iMovie '08 until now. With the latest improvements, iMovie '09 should meet most of my needs. The SHATTER slide show in iPhoto is really a lot of fun!! I am enjoying all of the features thus far and am looking forward to more time spent with Faces, Places, and Garage Band.
