Within minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos, and more — without wires.3

Dual Band icon

Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi. NEW

For maximum range and compatibility, Time Capsule works simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. And Time Capsule uses the latest 802.11n wireless technology so you can enjoy up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.4

Guest Networking icon

Guest networking. NEW

Time Capsule also works great as a wireless hard drive, whether you have a Mac or a PC. It sets up in a snap, giving you a networked hard drive you can use for storing and sharing all kinds of files. If you're a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.5

  1. (1) Time Capsule is based on an IEEE 802.11n draft specification and is compatible with IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, and IEEE 802.11g.
  2. (2) 1GB = 1 billion bytes; 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual formatted capacity less.
  3. (3) Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point, and Internet access; fees may apply. Some ISPs are not currently compatible with Time Capsule.
  4. (4) Performance is based on a comparison with Apple's 802.11g products. Comparison assumes Time Capsule-based network with 802.11n-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme enabled computer or other Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a/b/g-enabled computer. Actual performance will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
  5. (5) MobileMe is available to persons age 13 and older. Annual subscription fee and Internet access required. Terms of service apply.

    Works Wonderfully and Flawlessly

I read various product reviews for a backup drive and settled on the Time Capsule. I was a little apprehensive based on some of tRead morehe negative reviews, but mine works wonderfully and flawlessly. I piggy backed the Time Capsule onto a Verizon Fiber Optic wireless router; it took a few minutes to set up but I was off and running and started my first backup. It took about seven hours to do the initial backup of 70 gb; I had no errors or restarts and it continues to do its backups regularly and flawlessly. I highly recommend this product.

    It Simply Works!

It's a "set-and-forget" device. Once you've SET IT CORRECTLY everything works flawlessly! It has a router capability to complementRead more or replace your existing router (it's a far superior router than what you have right now- i bet), it has a usb port for your printer (so you can print wirelessly), the same usb port you could use to add an additional storage device, three gigabit LAN ports and a simultaneous dual band feature (sweet!). What's not to like? N O N E!

    Good, but not great

Out of the box this is a very good looking piece of networking kit, probably only trumped by the Linksys WRT610N.
Setup was a breeRead moreze "5/5" I just selected replace an existing network setup and within 5 minutes the whole thing was up and running without the need to reset any of my client machines (both Mac and PC).
Time Machine on the MBP worked great if a bit slowly for the first backup.
Big problem is range, it is far worse than the old Netgear router it replaces, by quite a margin, the wireless signal just wont reach my home office any more "1/5" as this is one of the primary reasons for upgrading.
I have just purchased an airport express to use as a range extender, so we will see if this improves anything!

    Disappointed

For starters, I have to say that I love all that is Apple. I own an iMac, Macbook, iphone, ipod etc.

I own the Time Capsule foRead morer over a year now and have had problems since. First the wireless would not work for the life of me (I'm quite knowledgable around computers) until I had to wire it to my iMac. Then it would refuse to backup for no reason whatsoever. I had it replaced.

Now the backup system does not work again. I've had to reset it to factory settings many times - probably around 6 or 7 since first purchased (which is extremely frustrating since I put some original files on it).

It's unlikely that I have a lemon, given that it was replaced. I think that the firmware can't handle a serious computer user (as opposed to someone who just checks e-mail and does wordprocessing).

I'm not trying to dissaude you from buying it. As all apple devices, it is beautiful. But while Apple products are reknown for beauty and function, this one lacks the function.

    Easy to use

This product is a great 2 in one product that is easy to set up and secure... unlike other networking devices I have used in the pRead moreast. Trust me, spend the extra $ to get the back up drive... it's worth it... as opposed to purchasing separate. Air Port Extreme + a hard drive... easy decision... runs on its own in the background, you won't even notice it.

I love this thing! It was so easy to set up and the automatic backups work flawlessly. I don't even notice when it backs up. The dRead moreual-band WiFi signal is amazing, so now all the wireless devices in my house run at optimal speeds! Buy it! Trust me. You won't regret it!
